A great technique, thanks for sharing. Would you use Burnt Umber on all figures, or just the Africa Corps figures?
@mrblackpublications5 ай бұрын
Hello Andy, I think I mentioned in the video that this shade is working perfectly for light hues uniforms. For darker one will be better to add a little black. Do not use pure black. Also for the lining. But if you have field grey or olive drab perhaps you can add Burnt Umber into Black...

Where did you get the handles you're using? If you made them, what materials did you use?

Hello Paul, It is a custom made handles by Albert Nikolaev (check his facebook page) designed by me. He made the wooden part to fit in commercial cork size that I bought from the market.

Is it speed painting if you wait 1 day for the layers ?
@mrblackpublications6 ай бұрын
You are not watching the layers to dry. You can paint a lot of other figures or other stuff when it is drying. The total time you spend is the key... You can use a hairdryer if you are knowing the properties of the paints that you are using. This is a general advice. Maybe you are using Tamiya acrylics...or other alcohol based acrylics...these must dried for a day...

Excellent insight into the book. In your honest opinion, how useful are the techniques applicable for small scale (e.g., 32mm) figures?
@mrblackpublications6 ай бұрын
Dear friend, the book presents in a unique way how to use the paints (also color theory), the hues and also has artists paints. Not only Ak-Interactive. To show the SBS in detail to a small figure (1/35 or 1/32) and specially the head cannot show a lot really. The general concept is the same just use less layers and probably more diluted paints and use the pointillism technique. Whatever you think off and how to represent in painting is there. Of course if you are an experienced artist probably this has a little use as most of the people have developed their own style and very difficult to change after years of painting. Not only this book but every book...But you can check out new approaches and techniques that you will probably adopt them to your own style. I think it is one of the best in this field. A must have!

@@mrblackpublications, thanks so much for your reply, even though your original video was posted 3 years ago - much appreciated. It does indeed look like an amazing book. I read some reviews of vol 2 by a different author - Arnau Lázaro - but some people said there were great images but not so many specific details describing the techniques. I wonder if you came across that book too?

Did you really mean Zippo fluid (as in lighter fuel) to clean plastic - Surely that would damage it?
@mrblackpublications7 ай бұрын
Yes, wet your stiff brush or toothbrush and scrub all the surface. Do not put in a ball with zippo fluid. This also can be done with pure alcohol. Have in mind that Zippo fluid in sall quantities can be used together with essence de petroleum for thinning oils so to have a matt finish.

Lol, now make up brushes are "drybrush brushes". How much have you paid for them? 🤣
@mrblackpublications7 ай бұрын
Dear friend, you can use your old brushes or other ones as we were doing all these years. But have in mind that we were applying the dry brushing technique using oils or enamels. The Acrylics are a little different and spread all over very easily and you can not go back and forth without problems as with enamels or oils. So lately the companies have developed their owns series also for dry brushing acrylics. The cost for the Vallejo set of one Small, one Medium & one Large is about 22-29 euros. There is also an XLarge one brush. Also I used to use stiff brushes iteneding for oil painting but now with the delicate parts and with a lot of tiny details of resin or plastic we must use softer hair brushes...Some people are using brushes for make up but these are more expensive...Have fan and enjoy our hobby!

Dear friend, these days a lot of acrylic colors are very good for Figure Painting. Depending on your needs, the themes, the scale, for brush or mostly for airbrush use? you can choose your series from a lot of Spanish companies that are dominating the market of paints. But also the Italian paints are now very well! A lot of people mix the series and companies as they found better use. As Far as concerns the New Atomcolors range...I have not test any of these so I can not compare. If you tell me what are you painting, fantasy, historical, both...with brush? Or with airbrush I can suggest you some series that I have used personally and I know the properties. Also our books will help you: www.mrblackpublications.com
