Can't believe how backwards this is. German firefighter kids learn to do this faster and neater by throw rolling.

very cool, I wonder which is more practical above or below fire hydrant? with the ones above they are clearly seen and only 3 steps, take off the cover, hook up the hose and turn on the water. no need for that pipe extension.

What an embarrassment. The command is "MAKE UP". The OIC drill may not give the command knock off when there is no pump at work. During my 16 week recruit course, I wore out 2 pairs of fireboots & was half way into my third, others used an extra pair ( I was light on my feet). My granny gets to work faster that that & she's 114 years old. God save the good people of Norfolk, he'll have to.

Why are you splitting the rolling hitch? Close the rounds together for it function as a not slip knot.

1.....who the hell carries hoses like that and 2....all the equipment there is operational except the bar. No fire engine carries a barbell to lug around a motorway crash. Put an actual piece of kit there.

so these would never work in winter buried in snow. ours have a fiberglass pole attached to the top so they can be found when there is snow piled up on the side of the curb.

looks far too small to supply enough water for multiple fire trucks.
@Tom-me3vn
@Tom-me3vn 6 ай бұрын
The water runs from the water pipes underground, these stem from houses and other buildings so there is plenty of water to go around. Once you start using double-headed standpipes, you can use two flat hoses at each end and run them out as far as you need to. Then you can hook them up to their respective fire trucks. Hydrants like these are vital to the UK fire service

There is no such thing as a Fire Truck in the UK Fire Service. The only correct term is 'Fire Appliance'. Water MAINS don't stem from houses or other buildings either, that only confirms a complet elack of understanding of what is covered on a recruit training course.@@Tom-me3vn

It really is interesting the differences. The hose connections are very different from the US (no shock, but those are kind of cool quick connect things), my agency has never allowed running on the fire ground just walk with a mission/urgency (too easy to injure self accidentally), and nozzleman is holding the kickback of the hose with his arms instead of into his hip or the ground. Your arms will tire a LOT faster if you do it that way. Pressure on the line seems pretty low though, so maybe not a big deal... but then you wouldn't need backers either.

Genuine question. When would you want just a bowline around a casualty? Unless in water rescue
@CaptainQuintsOrca
@CaptainQuintsOrca Жыл бұрын
We’ve used it on a live rescue getting a casualty out of a ships hold. If done properly like this it’s a good quick knot if it’s time critical.

Its really only good if the victim is ambulatory and canhold themselves on the line. Otherwise if they are limp they can slide. For limp unconscious vics, id reccomened the rescue helo hitch

@@CaptainQuintsOrca would a fireman's chair not be more appropriate? I wouldn't be comfortable holding myself with just a bowline
@CaptainQuintsOrca
@CaptainQuintsOrca 10 ай бұрын
@@frazzle657 depends on the situation. The ships hold had a steep angled set of metal stairs rather than a raking ladder so the casualty was able to slide up with assistance and lifting by the internal crew with help pulling from the external crew. Like most rescues there are many ways that’ll work. That was just what we did at the time and it worked with what we had. Chair knot would have been better if it had been a pure vertical lift rather than partly over the stairs I would think. Whatever you choose it’s graft😂

In Poland we have in my opinion better system for drills. We use water splitter and if we want to extend or short the line we just give command to each other without a words. i.e Nozzle operator when ready raises arm up and show "forward" . It means "Im ready, open water supply" we say ( water ahead) Arm waving from side to side means water STOP. Arm raises and fall like train whistle or horn motion (upwards), mean increase water pressure, the same but Downwards = decrease water pressure
@eastofenglandemergencyspotting
@eastofenglandemergencyspotting 11 ай бұрын
We also use that system here, the arm signals are more used than shouting out this is just training, if we are at a point where the pump operator can't see but they can hear us shout then we would shout.
