A good summary of bubble sorts. I enjoyed the humour in it, too. I'm curious, why you picked PHP, rather than Python for the code example? Especially when you prefer Python anyway? Am I correctly guessing that you didn't want to go into the memory usage of the different algorithms to keep things simple enough? For what uses do you think sorting algorithms have these days? In my mind, binary trees of some variety would be better in general. I can conceive that sorting algorithms in low resource embedded systems would be useful, where you only want to have the resource usage of bare arrays.
@MadComputerScientist13 күн бұрын
The main reason not to go into space complexity which for this algorithm is O(n), is that space complexity usually isn't a problem for most applications on modern computers. Embedded engineers, however, have to be very concerned with space complexity on limited devices.

They are not impressed with Tesla's well known quackery from the 20th century, even if they respect Tesla as a a scientist. Physicists know Tesla was not onto something with the power of 9. Health insurance is a very complex scam. For instance, DME, Durable Medical Equipment. A wheelchair that can't be found for more than $250 retail will only be available through insurance on an insane rent-to-own contract totaling perhaps $800. The cushion for my wife's wheelchair was about $300 through insurance. The same make, manufacturer, and SKU at Bed, Bath, and Beyond was about $25. A $1300 CPAP machine costs $3900 through Blue Cross. Another scam is the concept of health insurance networks. Most people think of them as watchdogs looking out for overcharges. Instead, in all the cases I found, the health insurance network owns the health insurance company. For instance. Blue Cross's network is called Blue Advantage. Blue Advantage owns Blue Cross. Obviously, not paying large claims boosts profits. In a bizarre way, paying like a slot machine also boosts profits. Your health insurance premiums are set, in part, to meet a stable profit margin, often a whopping 15% or so. If my health plan has to pay this year, everyone's premiums go up next year. Fifteen percent of a larger pie is more dollars. Your doctor honestly believes Medicare takes years to pay. But go ask a Medicare con artist why he targeted Medicare. He'll cite the statutes that require Medicare to pay within 30 days. Short staffing at Medicare means they don't have time to vet claims. Medicare fraud is profitable because it's easy to get away with it for 3-6 months. By that time, there's a nest egg and retirement money in another country. That alleged murderer deserves due process in court. If the charges are true he deserves to live out his days in a cage. For those who believe in the death penalty, he's a poster child. In a venomous, intolerably Machiavellian way, he also had a point. What a shame he didn't fight his battles in a civilized way, with a word processor and activism, and what a shame it is health insurance executives aren't the ones facing prison.

Ooh, one of my hot buttons. Because provisions of law in my state that mandate open ballot format are ignored, tricks like SQL injection can't be found by audit of ballot data. It's incredible. @@MadComputerScientist1 Please accept my apologies if I sound strident. That is not my intention. I like your channel and respect your perspective. Count me as passionate about lawful voting. Paraphrasing Voltaire, I may detest a candidate but I would defend to the death all candidates' rights to honest elections. I have relatives who did just that on battlefields. Of course, the greatest threat to election security is officials who don't have a clue how vulnerable their systems are. SQL injection does not require an Internet connection. Any SQL system that reads data, even if from internal sources, is subject to SQL injection because that's an SQL feature. Here's another vulnerability in Texas. All voting systems, and all voting systems equipment must be certified before use in elections. That's easily proven to not be respected. Since the dawn of time, Texas has never certified a Windows based computer for use in elections. Every election uses a Windows system as a central tally machine, often with a Microsoft Access back end. All elections in this state use uncertified equipment. And who really wants to bet democracy on flashable BIOS's that are never verified? 😉

It's just that SQL injectoin wouldn't be done at the voting machine level. I think the issue is I just didn't quite understand why SQL injuection was brought up in this context.

This is the comment I made on the original video that I think helps to clear up some of the issues: "The semantics of this video is somewhat murky, because you keep saying that "AI doesn't exist" while talking about it in the same breath as something that does exist. Some disambiguation would be helpful. I infer from context that you're saying "A computer that is as smart as a human in every way isn't something that exists", which is accurate. Part of the problem is that AI isn't a single thing. The term "AI", as it's generally used, refers to "any computer program that simulates some aspect of human thinking", and this refers to many things that clearly do exist. The part of the program that controls the opposing side in single player video games is (and has been for a long time) called AI. Large language models are called AI. Machine learning algorithms are called AI. Generative adversarial networks are called AI. The programs that have beaten human chess and go champions are called AI. So, semantically speaking, "AI" is not a single thing, but a general class of computer programs that are designed to simulate some aspect of human thinking, which clearly do exist. (Otherwise what are you making a video about?) One thing to realize is that different AI abilities develop at different rates, and in many specialized areas (such as chess and go), machine intelligence is already far superior to human intelligence, and the number of such areas is steadily increasing. The first autonomous cars were not as good at driving as humans, but current ones arguably are (and if they're not yet then it's just a matter of time). It seems like what you're really trying to say is "The things we call AI shouldn't be called AI", in which case it might be helpful to suggest an alternative term for all the things that are currently referred to as AI. You're also doing a fairly decent job of pointing out many of the current limitations as well as misuses of AI. Another thing to realize is that the many applications of AI are improving rapidly, so the state of the art is not static. There used to literally be no such thing as AI. Then there was very primitive AI. Then there was slightly better AI. And now we're reaching the knee of an exponential curve that represents an explosion of machine intelligence. So, whatever limitations of AI may exist today, there's a good chance that there are researchers who are working on overcoming those limitations. The history of AI development is littered with tasks that were once thought to be too complex for computers to handle but were subsequently overcome. Any statement of the form "AI can't/will never be able to..." is likely to have a short shelf life. As AI continues to develop, it's important to be cautious about excessively trusting imperfect systems, but it's also important to realize just how rapidly those imperfect systems are improving."

Collier is brilliant. What is great about her videos is she talks in simple terms. She is using a.i. as the public understands the term. You can substitute agi or artificial super intelligence or artificial sentience or consciousness to get the point. Rather than being "mean" to her, try learning from her. Pose questions in scientific debate. And for her warning about LLM and advanced machine learning I suggest, is your life better now that you can never get a human on the phone at a corporation? Press 4 if yes, 3 for no, 7 to return to the main menu. I know you are too young to have a frame of reference for that. But I would recommend... If you really want to contemplate ai/agi etc ... Study more pure physics and related (math based) philosophy. Can you solve the hard problem? The measurement problem? Determinism vs probabilistic universe? Are you a reductionist? Or into emergence? Have you contemplated Mary's room or the Chinese room? Do you know what your cognitive biases are? Much of what Dr. Collier talks about (with a droll humor) when she makes videos outside of straight physics is the overall shitty nature of human behavior. That's why "a.i." will ruin everything, anyway.

Collier says many things that would ordinarily be unbecoming of her perceived excellence if not for her relatively minor contributions in academia in conjunction with her niche online presence. Personally, I strongly dislike her as her videos often feel formatted to appeal to an otherwise contrarian and science-illiterate audience. I understand the need to educate the public regarding matters of science, but the way by which she goes about doing so fosters an echo chamber rather than a place of respectable scientific discussion, which wouldn't be half as much of a problem as it is if she weren't also patently incorrect in her argumentation. Perhaps you could try educating yourself instead of glazing KZbinrs that confidently peddle misinformation in areas in which they are not knowledgeable while maintaining the veneer of credible skepticism.

Interesting subject matter. I hope I can offer some contrary opinions while respecting your thoughts. I remember a movement by shallow and likely untalented people in the 90's to create a programmer's license. Regulating what you can express in Visual Studio Code makes as much sense as regulating what you can express in Word. In either case, law already applies. Murder by AI is already illegal. Fraud by AI is already illegal. If you can't find the people to prosecute, then the crime is already out of reach. Regulation limiting me isn't going to solve that. I hate AI. Regulating it is like stopping a dog fight by grabbing one dog. Scofflaws will just attack. Elon Musk is a clown - or a paradox. Whether he scammed the government out of funding for it or not, he's led some very creative engineering. His rocket engines, for example, look to me to be models of simplification. His robotics have been risible. He's a child in many fields. His statements can't be trusted. His Neurolink advances are near magical. My point is we need to target enforcement correctly. For instance, if you want to stop scammers from draining bank accounts, stop letting banks off the hook for unauthorized transfers. I don't care if my money went through nine hops before disappearing into bitcoin in North Korea. I want my bank prosecuted for releasing my money inappropriately. Do that, problem solved. Banks will not practice loose authentication after that first sting.

You're focusing on the wrong concerns. It's the corporate wonks like Musk and and the misuse of AI by those in power that worries most people looking into the sociological concerns of AI.
