Why not just be ok with fixing the problem? What is the point in venting without just solving the issue?

I have sent this video to so many people. It's so perfect to show the differences between men (fixers) and women (feelings), relationship issues, etc. Even with my wife of 34 years, if I try to help and get shut down, I think "If you could just get that nail out of your head," but I've learned to not say it. Cheers.

Lol ! I was one of those who was mercilessly harrassed & tormented k-12, and although I loved learning, I hated school because of the other kids. Over the many years since graduating, I've seen a few of those tormentors... 🤭...😆

This is funny and so true! But I can only put up with someone who bitches about problems that they won’t fix for a certain amount of time. Sometimes it takes a while to find clarity, but sometimes you have to walk away if it gets to be a pattern for people who endlessly complain.

Clearly written and produced by a man. Misogynistic much? Paints the man as arrogantly superior with the CLEAR answer (because he sees soooo clearly the problem that she is too dumb to see and is soooo smart with his solution!) and the woman is an unintelligent boob unaware of something so blatant as a nail stuck in the middle of her forehead. So it's the woman's fault he is terrible listener....cute.

Nothing sexist about men not wanting to be their spouse's dad or therapist
@bananabro101010 күн бұрын
@@ThaFuzzwood sure but the amount of them not willing to try to understand a woman’s way of needing to deal with a problem and totally invalidating it because of the way they themselves deal with problems is not really too good. A lot of them call it ridiculous or are mocking it or treating this like some sort of joke. A lot of them also aren’t, which is good. Yes the video is rooted in comedy and it’s funny but it also has a lesson in there for both men and women.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand this still drives me crazy, because it is so accurate. At the end of the day IT IS ABOUT THE BLOODY NAIL! Any woman who refuses to learn to acknowledge that fact is abusive. It is not my job to suffer for the problems you refuse to fix. Men have things they need to change to become decent human beings. Women have things they need to change to become decent human beings. This is one of them

She doesn't want him to remove the nail because then she won't have anything to complain about anymore. Ironically, she would then complain about lacking things to complain about, causing him to want to drive the nail into _his_ head.
@Ennio44423 күн бұрын
Men act their feelings out, women talk them through. Or, at least, that's what you expect in our culture. BUT this video's perspecive is pretty biased. Are all problems as simple to solve as the nail on someone's head? Why doesn't she want to acknowledge the nail? Why can't she see it? Hasn't anyone else told her about the nail? If the nail is a metaphore for the problems we don't want to escape because escaping them makes us be responsible of our own disgrace, then it's not a very good metaphore. Removing the nail is easy, and it seems to be her whole problem. Changing careers, defeating your fear or starting a family or moving to a different country, telling a close person they're pursuing a self-destructive lifestyle... these are the nails we all have to contend them. And yes, it's mostly about the nail, but removing it is not easy at all. So... why make such a flawed metaphore?

It could work either way, say if the skit was a guy saying he wakes up with these headaches, and dehydrated, his belly just gets bigger, and has to go pee all the time. Then pans out and he's drinking beer, cases of beer behind him. "Well honey, maybe if you cut down on the drinking" "It's not the beer!!" but in this scenario, instead of her asking about the beer asked about his childhood, or what is causing stress in his life... then he heals. The nail bit, yeah could be better, It's also making fun of how men try to solve everything, and we're not trying to be difficult we are just wired that way... it's comedy so the nail is obviously not about the nail, it could be like the things you mentioned, or there is some kind of attachment to the problem, like the man in the beer scenario would have an emotional connection to drinking beer so won't see as something outside of him causing issues, the nail could be representative of a problem she really doesn't want solved because she got really good at complaining about it. Would the medical industry really want to heal everyone? That would pull out the nail. Would a prison industrial complex want crime to stop? Would an auto manufacturer build a car that gets 2 million miles? So maybe it's pointing out how there's solutions to all the worlds problems and we are not allowed to pull those nails out either.

When my wife starts to discuss an issue, I try to remember to ask “fix or vent?”. I don’t always remember to do it, sometimes I just dive into fixing it But it’s true. They don’t always want a solution, sometimes they just need to talk about what’s bothering them. They just want to be heard. Does that make sense to me? No. I’m a guy. We aren’t wired that way. But I also love my wife Part of being in a relationship is understanding how they are and just going with it anyway, even though it makes no logical sense that they wouldn’t want a solution to their problem
