Professor Doran Larson publ. a short story in Best American Short Stories 1998, "Morphine". As a Bay Area native, I learn his book, "Fourth City: The American Prison Writer as Witness" to be a necessary read for all persons that question the veracity of a large black prison population. I'm not a scholar, and I prefer his short story, deeply sensitive and worth a read.

Incredible that this only has 1,800 view and no comments but a clown like Red Viking Trucker garners thousands of view spreading Pollyanna propaganda as a shill for the freight companies.

i am disappointed that George adopts the simplistic capitaliam vs. socialism frame for discussing economic systems....and he comes out favoring capitalism....George, listen to Richard Wolff among others...you certainly know of him, he draws huge crowds when he comes to the Bay Area ...you are wrong on this one

This knowledge is important to know. The reason is because it provides a mandate to engage in climate change limiting initiatives. Also, it is gratifying that people can discern or interpret the science.

Her point - made in Q&A - that it's more the framing of the migrant crisis than the crisis itself that's causing the rise in far-right parties, and that we know this because Austria has had very little immigration and seen a very significant rise in far-right parties... I'm not so sure... Just for example, it could be that very limited immigration has, because of the way Austrian society is, had a relatively big impact on it. Incidentally, those pro-Putin comments below scare and confuse me a little. I get that the guy has competence and backbone, but he is basically a dictator, suppressing all serious political opposition and striving to have power and wealth concentrated overwhelmingly in the hands of his cronies. If your gonna tell me many European and North American leaders are really no better, I might agree, but enthusing about Putin is hard for me to understand.

Excellent lecture. Professor Hawley's thorough research on the Alt Right is so precise and well analyzed that he was able to predict 6 months in advance the tragic trend of White Supremacists' hate attacks that we are now experiencing. There needs to be more research on this topic and more awareness as to the dangers of these dangerous movements. Pity there weren't more people in the conference. I would love to have attended. Thanks for uploading.

I thought Prof. Lakoff was a smart guy, but this was a disappointment. His framing of "strict father" conservatism is so lacking in nuance, I suspect he wrote diagrammed it in crayon. Stick to linguistics, George.

Dr. Lakoff has a message that every progressive, every person who cares about their children, their families, their communities, and their country needs to hear, because we have been all wrong about how we are going about trying to bring our message to the conservatives and those who vote against their best interests. He explains it, and gives us tools if we will pay attention and use what he teaches.
