@Jetchisel Well, to be honest i can not chose one. Paşabahçe has the curves, simpler yet beautiful. Fenerbahçe carries on the Scottish maritime architechture heritage. Very interesting design. Wooden bridge, sharp edges, curves... I miss sailing onboard Fenerbahçe. I hope your wish becomes true, but highly unlikely...

Watched another video on this for context: The anchor is dropped about *one second* before it hits the first of the cranes. The ship is barely moving at that point, probably in contact with pier several seconds before. One tug, directly ahead of the YM Witness, can be seen beginning to churn the water, at about the same time contact is made with the cranes. I think it decides to back out-- at full throttle-- but may have gotten turned around. The second uninvolved tug, with a head-start, is also escaping the area. Both are staying clear of the tugs still trying to control the container ship as they escape. The three crane collapses (domino like) are terrifying to see.

Are people in the crane when the ship is arriving or departing? I'd think they wouldn't be allowed up in the controls until the ship is already safely moored

There were no operators, nobody was injured thankfully.
@mradriankool
@mradriankool 5 ай бұрын
If the cranes are boomed up, there’s normally no operator in them, but there’s so much going wrong here. Ship coming in at too steep an approach, no tug on the bow. Those green sacks look to be blocking the cranes as normally cranes are stationed away from the berth area, especially the bow. Also an old quay so the boat is a tight fit as I doubt it was in reality designed to accommodate a ship of that size. Also there’s still the chance of mechanical failure. Finally the berthing master should of clearly been able to foresee this and failed to communicate. That is highly doubtful so it really comes down to bad practise ( no bow tug ) or mechanical
@jemijona
@jemijona 5 ай бұрын
@@mradriankool The Witness was coming in way too hot for the tugs to hook up. The ship threw out its starboard anchor as they knew they were coming in too hot, but the speed didn't drop below 8 knots until it hit the dock.

@mradriankool

@@jemijona which suggests bad operations. I worked for 12 years quayside and nothing that size should have anything less than 3 tugs & they’re attached way before the ship is anywhere near the quay. Well that was our procedure at felixstowe. Seen as many as 5 in weather on a EEE. That’s the whole reason for the tugs being attached to pull the bow and straighten then let the lateral props guide it on to the quay. Tugs ran at 1500-2000€ a pull, so maybe trying to save a few thousand has cost millions. Pilot error for the approach angle but all those decisions are made way before this should have happened. Again goes back to the tug count, as even if loss of steerage the tug can intervene.

She was restored (actually "remanufactured") between 2020-2022 in historical Halic Tersanesi (Goldenhorn Shipyards). After the restoration she received wholly new and modern systems, more powerful engines (2x ABC 6DZC 1800HP, older ones were 1600HP) a mini art gallery at the downstairs and many more. She is essentially a brand new ship now and serving in Marmara Sea mainly to the Prince Islands from August 2022. It is the fastest (about 20-21knots, please check radar records), the largest, "oldest" and the "newest" ship of Istanbul Şehir Hatları (Sea Lines of Istanbul City).
