The second half sounds inspired by Turangalila symphony.

The brass swell at 1:45 to 2:00 is absolutely fantastic! This is one of the best 20th century symphonic works. Diamond Dave!

Great piece! Yes, the piece reveals its secrets if you keep that basic pulse in mind all the way through. I really like his Shaker Loops too.

Exceptional composer, surely a genius, true to himself without ever being locked into a system, he seems inexhaustibly inventive. I take the risk of being unfair to many musicians, but I place him, along with Leonard Bernstein, Steve Reich, Roy Harris and William Schuman, as one of the greatest American symphonists of the second half of the 20th century.

Neither Reich nor Adams has ever written a symphony.

@@Twentythousandlps Not entirely true. HARMONIELEHRE is kind of a symphony. Also take NAIVE AND SENTIMENTAL MUSIC, a symphony in but the name...

Rouse's works are performed with regularity by Marin Alsop/Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music (1st week in August, Santa Cruz, CA). Rouse is a first class composer with interesting imagination and excellent orchestral skills. At present, the NY Philharmonic performs what he writes, NICE JOB!

Terrific piece! Very impressive on a first hearing...like John Williams on steroids. The test will be how good it sounds after 100 playings--can it stand the test of time.
