I am new to dahlias. It appeared that you cut through a dahlias tuber. Can I divide my tuber clumps in this way or do I need to separate each tuber after they have eyed up?
@annebromwich79948 күн бұрын
I believe you need to see where they have sprouted from so wait i think.
@Dahlienprinz2 жыл бұрын

@thenationaldahliasociety54443 жыл бұрын
If its salt like its nothing to worry about, if it's powdery, that can be be powdery mildew. Treat with a fungicide or milk wash.

So the bit of tuber u take w the cutting.... I thought that was the whole advantage of taking cuttings from sprouting eyes - that you’re getting a bit of the hormone and they root better than stem cuttings? But u lopped it off! ? So essentially you’re doing a stem cutting anyway, as you take it up to the next node, right? Aren’t you going to be out of luck if that tuber doesn’t produce any more eyes ?...or are you saying taking the first sprouts from the eyes stimulates it to create more....
@ianledger68193 жыл бұрын
There is no tuber taken with the cutting. The cutting is taken a couple of mls above tuber or up the stem. This cut will encourage new growth, normally 4 more shoots. As you say if you take tuber with the cutting you loose the growing eye. As with all dahlia growing, if it works for you keep on doing it and it works for us.

Hiya, when the tubers start sprouting, there's more than one growth point. Do i just allow one point too shoot from the tuber or several? Also can i divide tubers as i've got some large one's? Many thanks
@thenationaldahliasociety54443 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary. Check out The National Dahlia Society Facebook page as there are loads of videos and info on there too. Let the shoots come and keep the strongest. As for dividing, If you can't see eyes, let the shoots come so you can make sure every divided part has a shoot😃

Hi Dave. Do you sell dahlia tubers?
@onetwocue3 жыл бұрын
I just saw the tubers for sale and debating if I should add them to my cutting garden. I find them pretty but when it comes to the floral market, I don't know how well they'll do.
@thenationaldahliasociety54443 жыл бұрын
I don't know many of the florists which use them, they like a dahlia with more petal. You are best to probably ask the question to another florist? They are lovely though, especially in the borders.
