Thanks for your comments! The brush tip is not stiff at all, in fact it is quite soft if you compare it to most synthetic hair (nylon) brushes. I think the key (also what makes it look like it's stiff) is that how much pressure you put on your brush tip. I try to be as gentle as possible with each brush stroke, so that the pressure do not split the tip. Also keep the brush tip moistured will help, you can always blend in a bit more water while mixing the paints.

My main brushes are from local budget brands 金泥(Jinni) 秋宏斋(QiuHongZhai), which I believe are not available outside China. Features of my main brush: Hair: weasel Tip Length: about 10-13mm Tip Diameter: 1.5-2.5mm Something I can think of might be helpful to choose a suitable brush: - Synthetic (nylon) brush are easier to control but last not as long as natural hair brush. - Sable hair brush is a good choice for miniature painting, my brushes have weasel hair which is similar to sable but with lower cost/quality. - I found it important to compare and decide the right brush size to suit the painting style. Personally I go with larger brush with a diameter of 2mm (about size 2) for most of the work, larger brush size means more bristles to help holding the tip together while painting. It can also hold more paint which means less paint dipping and speed things up. Hope it helps!

I am doing the drybrush mainly for 2 reasons, since I primed the miniature black makes it hard to see all the details, the drybrush will leave highlight on raised area and show the details more clearly. Also after drybrushing heavy charcoal, it takes less layers of following base coat (the violet red for example) to cover than pure black. The color doesn't matter too much here, I think it shall work with most dark grey paints.

I don't own DMD but jumped in DMD - Fear of the Unknown KS, shall upload some painting videos when I got it.
