Thanks for the video! Do you use something like WD-40 Penetrant fast release spray on the nuts/bolts before you try to remove them?

Good coverage. Prepping to do my '73 Midget, so your video is very helpful. Noticed in comments below the need for the spacers at the front hanger.

Thank you! Your video helped me get the sping into place and fasten the U-bolts. I spent a full day frustrated until your demo rescued me.

@@MarcoCeppi When the u-bolts finally made it through the holes, I smiled a lot.

Nice rims. I'm doing this work this winter on a 77 Midget. I figure I'll replace the bushings with the synthetic ones, because they last a little longer. And since the wheel is off, do the brakes. And since the brakes are off, do the bearings. And since the hub is off, do the dampener... Ugh

Thanks for this very informative video. I'm just in the process of replacing the old rubber Bushes at the rear of the Leaf Springs with some new Silicone ones, which will probably last longer than the car!!! I was having trouble trying to remove the front mounting plates as the 'official' Workshop Manual neglected to mention the two bolts under the carpet, behind the seats! I was trying to unscrew, what I thought were two nuts on the underside! Duh!!! Good job I didn't try too hard or I would have to order replacement plates. Your video probably saved me a lot of time and money! Thanks

Interesting video but you have omitted to fit the nylon and steel distance washers either side of the front spring hanger eye, that it is why you have wear marks on the mounting plate!

Good visual vid. I'm about to do mine. I was told to make a measurement from the front tire to the back hub , make sure that axle is straight , if it's off it could cause steering issues.I don't trust the integrity of the floor pan, a jack may go right through it, will use a small flat piece of ply along with the jack. And another set of scissors on each side underside rocker panels.

A piece of wood is a great way to distribute load on a questionable pan. the jack is positioned more towards the sill/runner which is structural. Good luck!

Not a bad job, for as you stated in the beginning a non-mechanic. Too bad I don't have a Midget so are you planning on later getting into the restoration weeds of being able to eat off the undercarriage or will this be a "driver" Do a walk around video of the car. Abbey in TX

+Abbey Castro This car, as with my others, are purely for driving. They're not show room quality and I'm not ready to embark on a body off restoration just yet. I'd like to sometime in the future, but without a lift, storage, or tools, it would be difficult. I'll do a walk around later this week after finishing the exhaust and applying a good cleaning ;)
