3:35 why did you put the p value as 0.5 and how to determine it in different questions
@mathsican77966 ай бұрын
the probability of ‘success’ in my example was 0.5 because that was the probability of getting a ‘head’ when a coin is tossed once, or 1/2 as a fraction. Suppose in another question you had rolled a dice four times and recorded the number of times you scored a 5, then the probability of ‘success’ in that question would be 1/6, as that is the chance of getting a 5 when a dice is rolled once. So in general, the probability of success, what you referred to as p value, is determined by a simple probability calculation, determined by what is chosen to be ‘success’ in the question. I hope this makes it clear.

If the game is played by paying $1. Then do i have to take net profit to calculate the expected value. And is expected value and expected winnings(or retun) same or different
@mathsican77968 ай бұрын
I’m not sure which ‘game’ you are referring to but you could do it either way. You could calculate the expected return/payout (ignoring the $1 payment) and then compare the expected return to the cost of playing ($1) and work out the net gain by finding the difference. Alternatively you could include the cost of playing ($1) in your expected ‘net return’ calculation, ie subtracting $1 from each ‘payment/return’ value, in which case the result of the expected value calculation is the expected net gain. The ‘expected value’ is just a generic phrase. Whether it refers to the expected ‘payout’ or the expected ‘winning’ or expected ‘net gain’ depends on how you have defined your variable, as mentioned above. I hope this helps, Warm regards
@veerakanneboina80868 ай бұрын
@@mathsican7796 I am not referring to any game I am asking just "if".
@mathsican77968 ай бұрын
So if you calculate the expected winning (ignoring the cost) and it comes to $1 then that would be a fair game. Alternatively, if you subtract $1 from each of the return amounts and then calculate the expected net return and if E(net return) = 0 then that would be a fair game. Either method is fine.

Can you explain how you got the angle as 117 at 5:59 please
@mathsican779611 ай бұрын
Hi. The bearing of Edmonton from Calgary is 009, so the bearing of Calgary from Edmonton is 180 + 9 = 189 degrees. The bearing of Churchill from Edmonton is 72 degrees. So 189 - 72 = 117 degrees. I hope that this is a bit clearer than the method described earlier in the video. Regards

Thanks for the very helpful videos. I think there is a mistake. The question in the beginning gives a 5% significance level. However the final answer is that "there is sufficient evidence, at the 10% significance level, ..." Am I missing something?
@mathsican779611 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for pointing this out. You are correct there is an error right at the end, however it does not affect the outcome of the test. The test statistic is less than the critical value, so the Null hypothesis is accepted. It should state “that there is insignificant evidence at the 5% level to reject the null hypothesis”. Even if the P-value was compared the the 5% significant level, the conclusion would have been the same - accept H0. I hope these makes it clear and many thanks again.

hi when I go to calculate the expected frequencies from the statististics after setting up the matrix it says [not enough elements]
@mathsican7796 Жыл бұрын
hi, what 2 way table are you dimensioning for Matrix A (the observed frequencies)? If it is 2 by 2 for example, then you will need to enter values into the 4 cells created. I don’t understand your comment “when I go to calculate the expected frequencies “, as you don’t need to calculate them manually. When you press EXE to perform the 2 way test, the calculator will automatically dimension matrix B to be the same as matrix A and it will calculate the expected frequencies for you. The only possible error that I can think of is that you haven’t entered values into all of the observed frequency fields in matrix A. 🤔 You must populate at least half of these fields (the others would be zero by default), before the calculator will perform the test. I hope that this helps.

Invested for 4 years why 4*1=4 in it other videos u did 4*12=48
@mathsican7796 Жыл бұрын
it’s because in this example the interest is compounded ‘annually’, which is only once a year - so the value of k is 1. In the other video the interest was compounded ‘monthly’, which is twelve times a year - so k was 12. I hope that this makes sense.
