When Breakthrough was extremely valuable because double stacking custom moves actually extended the animation and increased damage. Plus characters like Goku who had 4 of the 7 ability slots occupied by transformations for every level of the oddly named "King Kai Fist" kaioken plus Super Saiyan

I like the drop dash, but REALLY should have added an option to disable it or make it a skill. Its useful but its also ruined a lot of my runs because i held the jump button after an air dash.

There are set places they can be. Once you do the levels enough times it is not hard to sprint to the common places quickly.
