How is Conclave a surprise? director of best picture nominated movie, famous actors, was predicted as a nominee since probably the beginning of 2024.

@@jefnyssen1937 I was surprised it had the guts to bring up real issues happening in the Catholic Church, which is mostly thanks to the book it’s adapting from - but I didn’t read it so I went in blind. Also I saw this before it was getting awards buzz, I was expecting a high profile thriller with big actors and it exceeded my expectations

I really liked Anora

@@Kolya-chu Anora was one of the funniest movies I saw this year, definitely popcorn flick, but also maybe biggest surprise with all 3 acts existing in different genres? The switch from like “Disney princess” romance fantasy to screwball comedy with the henchmen was awesome!

I just got recommend this video. Unwatchable after you accused all Republicans of being corrupt. Maybe don’t shit on everyone who doesn’t want to trans the toddlers if you want to appeal to more than your current audience.

if i can add a little personal point on your work , I find your script really well written , and the few shots clean and nicely took , but I would recommend to add more image and sound design to illustrate what your saying to keep it more dynamic , because it would made a great podcast , but for it to retain attention for the whole 35 minutes in the format of a video essay and really make the few frames you carefully took more impactful I would really suggest more shots to retain people's attention ,sadly nowadays , the work you've putted in your shots would be forgotten if it doesn't really strick and stick to your mind on a long run , I hope I've been helpful , don't see any bad criticism in it , hope you get where you want to be and touch who you want to communicate with !

Yeah my pipeline and video downloader really didn't help with finding enough clips for the runtime. My next series will hopefully have shorter videos and more clips throughout. Thank you for watching!

8:50 _The French Connection_ was NOT inspired by the French Wave. It was inspired by the Algerian film _Z,_ directed by Greek filmmaker Costa-Gavras. And the ending was not slapped together. The ending was the way it was cuz that's how the true story played out in real life. It's not a fantasy where the good guy gets the bad guy. It was a cynical film cuz it was a cynical time to be alive. 11:44 _The Godfather_ did not win every award. It won very few Oscars actually, compared to _Cabaret_ which won almost three times as many Oscars as _Godfather_ that year. 14:15 _The Sting_ won for Best Adaptation Score, not Original Score, as it wasn't an original score. The theme song is an old ragtime song ("The Entertainer") from 1902 and it was revamped by Marvin Hamlisch, so it won appropriately and deserved to win. And it's a classic song. Awful? What are you talking about? How have you never heard of the song before the film? And the movie was not trying to show the "class divide" amongst the races. So, why are you bringing in contemporary viewpoints into a movie from 50 years ago that takes place 100 years ago? That's NOT how you review movies. And how is the Oscar-winning editing bad in the film? If you're gonna make ridiculous statements like that, then elaborate. Otherwise, what's the point of this video? Worst review I've heard of this film. 25:22 _"I hate_ Annie Hall _cuz it's Woody Allen being Woody Allen for an hour and a half."_ --Wow, what great insight. Your personality is way more insufferable than Allen's. In fact, it's barely interesting enough to warrant anyone's attention for two minutes. 27:14 _"Other Vietnam movies after Deer Hunter were inspired by this one."_ No... they weren't. Do you do any research at all before making your vids? The quintessential Vietnam movie is _Platoon._ And Oliver Stone made it in response to films like _Deer Hunter_ and _Apocalypse Now_ cuz they were stylistic nonsense that had not the slightest accurate representation of Vietnam. _Platoon_ was the first realistic film about the conflict and it was inspired by Stone's own experiences in the war, NOT by any Vietnam film made before it. And also, the story would work better if we did NOT meet the townspeople before the boys go to war? Start with the movie with them at war, then have them come home to total strangers we never met prior? The whole point of the movie was to show the effects the war had on small towns like the one in _Deer Hunter._ So, meeting the townspeople before and after is NECESSARY to show the contrast. Otherwise, the film wouldn't be effective at all in its message. You have zero understanding of story structure. 30:30 _Kramer vs. Kramer_ is NOT one-sided. It was (and still is) WIDELY praised for NOT taking sides. And for crying out loud, stop bringing your modern day woke nonsense into the discussion when reviewing movies from the past (and I say that as a progressive). You review film in the CONTEXT of when it came out. NOT from a modern day perspective. This video was an utter waste of time.

Thank you for filling in the gaps in my research! I tried to do more broad simplifications to save time (since I don't monetize my videos). French Connection being inspired by an Algerian film I haven't heard of is interesting! I'll check it out! I was more talking about how the ending is just TEXT rather than an actual resolution of the consequences. I still argue Kramer vs Kramer is one-sided because of the screen time dedicated to Dustin Hoffman's father and how little we see of Meryl Streep's character when she is away from being a mother. Love that you saved "woke" for the end of your comments, made me laugh. Thanks for the view!

Saltburn will easily be one of the more remembered films of 2023 for many reasons. "Murder on the Dance Floor" has been stuck in my head for the past two weeks and the flashy cinematography really pulled me in. I can see why it's people's favorites, which is why I mention it so much haha. For me, it's themes get messy very quickly, which has been a consistent comment about Emerald Fennell's filmography. She'll make a classic one of these days though!
