I was there too I got a 2:24, and I was completely soaked, and i also agree they could have done a better job at organizing the location, like idk about anyone else but i never got a chance to eat a pancake before the race cuz they took forever to get set up and taking pictures, idk if they were ment for post race but that makes no sense cuz they were making em before the race, but yeah, I had fun. i had a goal for a 2:30 and beat it by a good amount, doing a full marathon on the first of january in kingswood. Hopefully everything goes well. see you next year

Nice job! I've ran the Kingswood one before, it's a pretty fun event. Good luck there. The food line at the Houston Half was pretty disorganized this year. I almost skipped it because it was just a train wreck even getting there. Once I found the entrance, there was no one in there. Too bad, really, it's usually a good race.

100% agree, the problem with any race enforcing time limits from the gun time ,instead of chip time, is that it wrongly encourages slower runners to get in earlier starting corrals to have a better chance at finishing on time

I know this is an old video, but hope you will still reply. I am considering signing up for this marathon or either the Woodlands marathon. As a first time marathoner, which one would you suggest?
@MRNBricks
@MRNBricks Ай бұрын
(This is my other channel.) If it were my first, probably the woodlands over Galveston. Galveston is fun, but it’s a loop course and kinda gets boring after the first lap and is more just something fun to do on a weekend. The Woodlands is a sort of figure 8 course that’s a full 26.2 miles. If you want the full marathon experience, woodlands is probably better. More people, better course layout, more of a formal event.

@@brookemechelle1457that’s mostly the time of year. It always seems to land on the first day of the year that’s hot. The heat will suck it out of you. The Woodlands also holds my PR from many years ago before I got old and lazy. It’s very doable.

I've never really been able to find ones big enough for my feet, to be honest. I've heard good things though. But, I've not had too many issues with blisters in between my toes. Most of the ones that I get are on the side of my big toe, the sides of the ball of my foot, and the sides of my heel. I can't remember if I showed them in the video, but the Woodlands marathon a couple years ago I got really bad blisters, the worst I've ever had. (If not there, I know there's pics on my website for that event.) :) I don't think I had any on my toes even then.

Maybe you got the gout like me. Hips were my issue but it's better now with meds. Good job getting the miles you did. I can't do the long distance anymore without training. When I was young I could sign up and finish with no issue. Habanero is crazy. Thanks for the vid.

I'd definitely not as young as I used to be. Ever since I hit 40, I've been falling apart. :) Kids suck up all my time and I don't have the time I want to train like I should. I didn't think of gout. I did that 5k in July and ever since my right hip just starts screaming after about 12-14 miles. I've taken a few weeks off and started stretching a bit, so hopefully it'll sort its self out. I have a pretty heavy schedule starting in November/December. And I signed up for Seabrook!!

When my husband and I heat train we swear by a ice filled bandana around our necks. Have you tried that? Might help you tolerate the heat better. Hubby went out yesterday in 105f and the ice saved him for sure. We started using ice when we did our races at Habanero a few years back. Good luck and keep it up
@motivatedbymedals
@motivatedbymedals 3 ай бұрын
I've tried the bandana, and seen people have good luck with it. Unfortunately for me, it does 2 things. First, the constant stream of melting ice down my back makes my hydration pack chaff. Ugh. :) But it also makes me just feel cooler without actually lowering my core temp. As a result, I push harder and end up getting sick because I can't actually feel how overheated I've become. It's a good suggestion though. Thank you. In a race venue (vs a solo training run) there's a lot of things like this that one can do to stay cool. The easiest one for me would be ice water in my pack vs the 100F water that's in there during these runs! hahaha. Thanks again.

I’m doing Habanero this year also.. Only way to get through it is a run walk interval which is slow but that’s what you want to get through the heat.. most of the people that go out heard at the start is relay teams.. Slow is the key and try to keep core body temp down.

It depends on the year. But most of the time it's in the 30s when you start and warms up maybe 50s-60s. I think a couple times it's got into the 70s. But, that time of year is mostly pretty cold for Houston.
