Inertial dampeners make it so that no g forces are felt when maneuvering. However crazy pilots like Han Solo would modify theirs just a little bit to feel some of the forces so they would know how they are flying. I’m pretty sure that is still canon. To be a pilot in Star Wars you really just had to know how to operate the machine. There are a lot of switches and buttons, and they have to be operated in specific ways to even get it going. However a good pilot needs fast reflexes and be able to make quick decisions.

Sad to see a bird stuck on the ground like that, but relieved to know the pilot walked away without injury. PS If I'm not mistaken, the probability of a fatal accident in a small plane (per mile flown) is on the same order as driving a car. Big jets are even safer!

Yeah he handled it like a champ! Exactly why we drill Emergency Procedures so much! And yes, aviation is quite safe. There are so many redundant systems in place to minimize the chances of a fatality. Plus our training emphasizes emergencies so when you find yourself in a real one, it’s second nature.

Great question! Indicated airspeed (IAS) is what you read off the instrument, calibrated airspeed(CAS) is IAS corrected for installation error, and True airspeed (TAS) is IAS or CAS corrected for non standard air pressure and temperature. That’s why we first plug in our pressure altitude and temperature in the little window. Thanks for asking the question!
@andybaldman
@andybaldman 4 ай бұрын
@@MontyCFI_KPAE Ok, so then what is 'installation error', and why does the airspeed need to be corrected for pressure and altitude?

Ha that's a good catch! I sourced the image from the airplane flying handbook, and yeah it looks like it's indicating the opposite of what it's supposed to. I'm questioning my whole life now! I'm going to do a little research and see if it was an error in the publication. Thanks for pointing it out!

These questions are so stupid because if you were flying you would simply turn the OBS dial to center the needle to find the outbound radial that you are on and then put it back. No confusion, no mistakes possible, no reverse sensing to decipher maybe in error, just a simple finite defining, immediate solution... DUH.

Yeah I have found that actually flying the VOR is so much simpler than what the exam questions indicate. I hope this video helps clarify for young pilots starting out. Thanks for the feedback!
