What is the history of this song Jon?

It's a Christmas carol that tells a story of a tenth-century king of Bohemia (modern-day Czech Republic) who goes on a journey, braving harsh winter weather, to give alms to a poor peasant on the Feast of Stephen. During the journey, his page is about to give up the struggle against the cold weather, but is enabled to continue by following the king's footprints, step for step, through the deep snow.

Thank You! Here I played an old vintage flute from 1894 (probably). In the Key of D. And the tune goes in D minor. :)

The beginning has something spherical, timless. Waves, an endless but timeless cycle of ebb and flow. The slow transition to linear flow is done greatly, the whole somg fits its name greatly.

Thank you! there is rarely ever any general chord progressions in traditional music. Celtic music is "modal," meaning you can often get by with a single chord. For example, if a tune is in E-minor, you can play just one chord: E. The melody will guide whether it feels major or minor. If you'd like more variety, use the circle of fifths. Any chords surrounding "Em" (like Bm, Am, C, G, and D) can work in different parts of the tune. Everyone approaches it a little differently. The best way to learn to play chords in Irish music is to start by learning the melodies.
