I saw a bar like this on a 40' CC Seaskiff 1954. Not sure if it was an option or owner added. Beautiful job on the wood work.

Wouldn’t be original…but a cool add! The Sidebar has only been around for maybe 20 years or so I’d guess. Thanks for the compliment on the woodwork!

Wow you took on a massive project. Lots of labor and money, but in the end you will have an amazing boat that should last for years. What does it have for engines?

Hello there and thanks for the comments! Lots of labor for sure. It has a pair of 427 Ford, 300 hp in it. Both have been rebuilt.

You can't hear it very well but those engines sound fantastic when the four barrels open up I remember that from when I was a little kid on our boat

Wish the sound was a bit better. They are 454’s… don’t “sing” like a pair of 427’s, but awesome nonetheless!

Spent 35 years in as a finish carpenter, rebuilt two of these classic CC's. Watched every video you did, I'm amazed with your work. You sir...are a perfectionist! Are you in the trades? ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE WORK!! I could stare at this artwork for hours!!

No not in the trades. I’m a IT project manager / business analyst. But, my dad is a woodworker by hobby so I learned a lot from him and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty… it’s not perfect, but I try and do the best with the capabilities I have! Thanks for having a look and enjoying the videos!

@Kpyto71

Bonjour Jacques! Most of the boat is still original but redone. It sure which “upgrades” you are referring to, but all of the work has been done mostly myself, with some help from my dad on woodwork that needed to be made or replaced. Everything else on the interior has just been the coat of materials and my time… Thanks for the compliment!

Hello there Connecticut! For the most recent walkthrough you can see "Rehab #5" on my channel - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6THp62Zl52LZqc. If you are looking for something more specific that you want to see, just let me know. I think if there's enough interest I might go through the boat area by area to explain what's been done. Again, have a look at #5 and let me know... it was taken last fall, so it's about where we are at for the moment. Thanks for watching! C.

How long do you think the varnish finish will last?
@Kpyto71
@Kpyto71 Жыл бұрын
Chris Craft originally put two coats in and it didn’t have the UV protection that some varnishes have today. On the interior of our boat I put 6 coats of varnish (4 gloss, 2 rubbed effect). Most of the interior was Finished in 2011/2012 and I see zero degradation… from my point of view, I expect that the varnish will outlast my ownership, and even if it had to be worked on, I’d think that a sanding and a coat or two of varnish would be enough… not a total stripping, sanding, staining, and varnishing like I had to do. On the exterior wood (helm area and aft seating), I put between 10 and 12 coats on and gloss only.

@@Kpyto71 I would love to see more progress. We had one of these in the late 60's up until the early 80's then Dad graduated to a Bertram 52 along with a 36' Donzi. Great memories on the Chris Craft. We had a hard top above the driving console that we would dive off of. I would spend hours as a kid scrubbing teak (Dad wanted it to look natural) policing chrome, and the fiberglass....lots of work but still fun.

Great walkthrough! Thanks for posting. I'm contemplating launching into an extensive interior restoration on '71 Commander 42 that has nearly the same layout as yours (walk-around queen berth in aft cabin). Were you able to reuse your vee berth headliner or did you replace it? If you replaced, where did you source it. Thanks!

Stunning, Chris. When the boats are at this point, they often times don't visually come together until the furnishings and window dressings are in place. The work you've done here make this boat look incredible with no furnishings or window dressings. Can't wait to see how this all comes together when those things are in place. You must be awfully proud, as well you should be. Congratulations
