Why don't you anesthethize them before the surgery?
@Zackisnotdead2 жыл бұрын
Not sure. It probably comes from a lot of people in larger corporations never using anesthesia because they care more about costs than welfare, and the smaller farmers have to cut costs as well in order to keep up.

I hate to be that person but these guys aren't anesthetized at all are they? So they are feeling this whole thing. But more than anything you don't suture the wound closed you leave it open, isn't there a high risk of infection to them?
@therubr14 жыл бұрын
Even with sutures there is infection risk but they also heal quickly, the incision is small (about an inch or so) and the location in protected under the feathers. I don't like the idea of no sutures but thats the logic behind caponizing this way.
@amber7264 жыл бұрын
I read that you generally move the skin laterally before making the cut so that when the skin is placed back it covers the wound...meaning the wound inside is covered by normal, uncut skin, then the skin that's cut on the outside heals rather quickly.
@missparadise8792 жыл бұрын
Yes, the skin is stretched when you cut so when you let it go there is lots of extra skin that covers it. The skin heals naturally and fast. If you take wanted to you could use surgical glue. I personally would. But most don't

When is the right age to castrate a rooster?
@fourdegreesc4 жыл бұрын
3-5 weeks, the longer you wait, the less benefit you get from it.
@elhombredeoro9554 жыл бұрын
I do it at 4-6 weeks old. The older the cockerel the more difficult it is to take the testes out intact and there is more chance of a slip.
@mdzobayer30944 жыл бұрын
@@elhombredeoro955 Doesn't it get too small?
@elhombredeoro9554 жыл бұрын
@@mdzobayer3094 yes, it is small, it is like a grain of rice, but it also depends on the breed Leghorns have larger testicles. The problem with older birds is that their testes become soft with age and it splits during the procedure thus resulting in a slip. The pieces of testes may fall into the body cavity of the bird and that can cause necrosis.

@SW627 So how bad is Trump going to loose come November? Great Economy to run on.. The voters are going to castrate Trump and then the righties can go cry in their soup... boo hoo.
I wonder about the risk of infection, after all he's using the same tools for each little guy. Roosters are pretty nice if you raise and treat them well. I like to pet my roosters from time to time, they love having their head stroked.
