An ambiguous game for the C64, but it could still do much better than this, take a look a the conversion of Turbo Outrun for instance, probably even more ambitious and plays surprisingly well.

I have seen LCD games with smoother animations. But nevertheless - I like this game.

Love the music. Original sounding, rather than imitating the maniacs of noise like 90% of newer C64 games.

I'm not sure if anyone even comes here, but not even the bloody TIMER functions properly. They programmed it so that there's 100 seconds to a minute rather than 60.

If they did use a hires player sprite, this would be an absolute milestone! And instead of waveform 128 some digitized drums - the best game ever!

My Daughter *loves* this game; the music is particularly hypnotic. Great game.

I played the absolute crap out of this game and then had this song in the intro play for something like 8 hours straight afterwards lol And to top that off. I still have my C64 tape to this day 😁

"Knight 'n' Grail started as a single screen mockup posted to a big pixel art site in 2008. During my ten-month parental leave, I wanted a small project to work on, so I took that mockup and made something out of it. Later into the project, Hakon Repstad (Archmage) made a whole level full of enemies and also drew the ending sequences as well as the cover art. Hans Axelsson, a co-worker of mine at the time and an old C64 scener, made the lovely music. And, as can be clearly seen, the game was heavily inspired by the Castlevania series." -- Mikael Tillander, designer, programmer and graphic artist (Knight 'n' Grail, C64)

So it's just dance music and no game sounds? Thats really odd, unless it's a setting that can be changed.

Why does this port not have better colors than the Speccy port? Black bike? Come on, that's just lazy ! No in-game music? Why? Oh well, at least it runs at a decent pace, unlike the Speccy and the Amstrad CPC versions.

Because this game is made in a C64 high-res mode which is very similar to ZX Spectrum graphics. It meant that each 8x8px square could have only two colors, background (black in this case just like in most games made in this graphic mode) and second color which could be anything. C64 games like Monty on the Run and Spellbound are also good examples of similar graphics but just like Saboteur 2 they were actually made initially for ZX Spectrum. High-res mode was indeed not very popular on Commodore64 and used mainly for Spectrum ports, most games made originally for C64 used multicolor mode with graphics and colors you refer as better. It allowed to use 3 colors per 8x8px square plus background color but in exchange all pixels were stretched to double width, that's why high-res is called high-ress. It IS possible to make Saboteur 2 better but it would require to do all the graphics from scratch, obviously people prefer to just port it with minimal changes and minimal effort possible.

What a difficult game. I managed to get the gift as a kid, but never made it back. Now 30 years later I finally get to see Santa Clause say 'thank you'

Hi. Thought to let you know that myself and DrD2k9 had created a TAS of this game. I used your video, since it was the fastest human record we could find. Thought you might like to see what we did with it. Hope you don't mind me posting a link here for the publication: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ2xY36Drr94q5o
