this just really slows down your MacBook or iMac I recommend installing windows. I've installed windows on my late 2013 iMac it is way faster now

I tried this and a few other adapters on mine (macbook pro 2015) and while it does get power and runs, the battery doesn't charge, even from other generation macbook power supplies. It only charges from its original charger or other original chargers made for this specific model. Just something for the folks in the comments to know might happen.

I REALLY hope you will answer this as I think it will help others like me. I have the same Mac but started having issues & the dreaded "stuck in the internet recovery mode". I tried EVERYTHING suggested. The problem is that Disk Utility would not erase anything, it no longer recognized my Time Machine Dr, & an OS recovery restore would never recognize my Hard Drive for install. That's just for backstory to explain my limitations. I'm totally ready now to just swap out the SSD, especially after your video(s). But what you didn't cover is that what if we are simply unable to update to the latest software prior to the install? If I understand you correctly, our OS version may not have the drivers to support the new SSD. Isn't that why some people in the comments may be having issues with recognization of their new drive? How do we make the purchase not knowing? Is their a solution??

I have the same model, except with the 1050TI video card. I had to replace the memory, the keyboard and power supply in its second year (out of warranty) and so when the battery life dropped to 5 minutes I thought enough with all this and bought a new laptop. Sadly the new laptop only lasted 16 months (Asus not so tuf) so I came back to the G5 again. I had to replace the battery to use it for work, as we often get power outages, and am now thinking about upgrading memory and the 128GB C drive, as most of the cheap laptops have far worse video performance and not much better CPU than this one. Anyway, thanks for the video guide, it looks much easier than I imagined.

This adapter is pissing me off because I downloaded all the software to pair a DualShock 3 controller with it but the adapter is not recognized by the pairing program. Lame if this can’t be used with a controller with analog buttons

Can the GPU be upgraded?

That motherboard will automatically set 3200MT for RAM that are rated for CL22 and 1.2v (JEDEC compliant). Some people have had success configuring their RAM settings manually (speed, steppings, etc) using the Ryzen Master app. I haven't tried it myself, I just bought a CL22 stick and called it a day.
