I've found that not controlling the rod and simply reeling in the line double-speed works. I tap the R1 and R2 buttons to keep the gauge between yellow and orange and I've successfully caught a few marlins.

I used a different set (Demigod), minus the helm, and very different skills. I had no problem beating him. I used fire damage (arrows and warrior skill) to get DoT on him, and it went much quicker. The Theseus armor is good, but it’s not something you have to use if you don’t want to 😊

There is an easier and more direct way. You can claim from the wall inside the hut with several tools (in the back of the meditation room). That’s the “correct path”. Nice solution though
