This was such a lovely vlog! Thank you for taking us along! Love the matcha, cute kitty, easy healthy meal ideas, and your running pace! (A goal of mine is to run more this year! I'm much much slower than you, but working on my long distances!) Wishing you all the best for the new year! 🥰💜
@catspocketnote9 күн бұрын
Aww thanks so much for this sweet comment 🥹 i always like to focus on enjoying my runs and not on the pace, it’ll get faster the more you run anyway, what matters is if you enjoy it or not!

If you are interested in more travel journals, then maybe you could find one by Carl Gustaf Mannerheim, a Finnish officer (later the President of Finland) who served in the Russian Imperial Army for 30 years and travelled through China on horseback from 1906 to 1908 to collect military intelligence though the journey was disguised as an ethnographic and natural science expedition. The travel diary has been translated into English as "Across Asia from West to East in 1906-1908" and apparently contains a lot of photos, as well. According to some reviews there seems to be a quite a lot about the journey also in a biography about him by Jonathan Clements called "Mannerheim: President, Soldier, Spy", if that is easier to find. But if those are difficult to find or too expensive then there are some info and photos online, as well. Also Eric Enno Tamm did the same journey himself a century later and wrote a book about it called "The Horse that Leaps Through Clouds: A Tale of Espionage, the Silk Road, and the Rise of Modern China".

This is such a cool bit of history that I would never have looked into if not for your comment! Thank you and I will take a look to see if I can procure the travel diary. It sounds like the perfect inspiration

i've had Underland sitting in my TBR all year, this must be my sign to finally crack it open! i've also been thinking of starting a notebook wholely about the concept of 'environment' which would tie in nicely. thank you for the inspo, can't wait to see how yours turns out!
@catspocketnoteАй бұрын
A notebook around “environment” sounds amazing!!!! Underland would be so perfect for inspiration too, would you be documenting locations you’re visiting or other places too?? Would it be physical environments?

Can I ask what pen you have attached to your notebook?
@catspocketnoteАй бұрын
It’s the J Herbin metal refillable roller ball pen - I have a fountain pen ink cartridge inside. The pen is much easier to maintain than a fountain pen and writes smoothly even after longer periods of no use, plus I can use up all the fountain pen ink I’ve been hoarding
@bill_i_am7539Ай бұрын
@@catspocketnote Thank you! I too have a mountain of fountain pen ink to use, and this pen sounds ideal. It took me a bit to find the black metal one, but I did; and ordered it immediately. 🥰

Hi! I’m so excited for this! Even if you think your research ‘isn’t good’ or your art is ‘bad’ you should still show us-please! It’s totally interesting! Totally unsolicited advice you can disregard: Try getting a pocket tn cover! It’ll fit the field notes and the passport insets better!
@catspocketnoteАй бұрын
Thank you so much, it really means a lot that you find this interesting!! And also on the pocket TN advice, I'd love to get one but I like the leather of traveler's notebook and I can't tell if leather notebooks by other companies will be as soft... is there a company you'd recommend?

When I first saw the Passport Traveller's Notebook, the first thing I thought of was Indiana Jones' dad's notebook in Last Crusade, lol. That was more of a commonplace book, holding all of his research.

That one more is just a leatherbound notebook but I can see where you see similarities! I've been considering using my own passport TN as a commonplace notebook but I haven't settled on a system for organization yet. That's my biggest obstacle right now. I also need to get more inserts.
@catspocketnoteАй бұрын
I recommend watching Ruby Granger’s video on how to commonplace if you haven’t seen it already and need some ideas for structure!

this is such a cool idea and way to use your passport travelers notebook! i really like the aesthetic you’re going for, although the origins do carry a touch of a colonial mindset. very excited to see how well this setup serves you! thanks for sharing 💛
@catspocketnoteАй бұрын
Yes I was wondering if I should address the colonialism and all the terrible things that happened because of this time of “discovery” for Europeans, but in the end it felt like too big a topic to summarise on this already long video 😅 but thank you for watching and it’s good to keep things in perspective!

What exactly is memory keeping? As in having a good memory perhaps?
@catspocketnote2 ай бұрын
It’s a way of documenting events in my life physically in my notebooks by collecting scraps of paper (receipts, packaging etc) as well as printing out photos and writing a few words about the day! Basically keeping a memory of something but taking the time to print things out and paste things in. It makes it feel extra special!

your journal key holder kanji. 信州 refers to the old name for what is now Nagano Prefecture in Japan. 善光寺 is the famous temple known as a place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime, which is my Dads hometown. we visit there every time we go to nagano. hope you do when you get a chance🥰

I really appreciate how looking back at our old journals and notebooks can provide such valuable insights into our past selves-it's amazing to reflect on how much we've changed while also recognizing what remains the same. I am enjoying listening to you sharing your thoughts while I journal. Mental resilience can be really challenging, especially when it feels like we're stuck. Thank you for your openness!

That's what daydreams are for, they're not "real", they're optional possibilities. No-one can prove king Arthur never existed, so your daydream is valid. Most adults lose that kind of magic in their lives, which doesn't exactly make the world a better place. Keep on dreaming, it's magic.
