What, no overdrive option! I've seen enough of these 220 base models that if the opted for the "weather eye" heater/defroster and a radio, they most often had the overdrive option to save fuel and reduce engine noise at freeway speeds especially with the L head base six.

Those valve lifters should not be that loud, they need to be adjusted. I had two Ramblers with the L Head engine. The lifters are adjusted cold.

It's so amazing! What a pity that not everyone will be able to take care of such a retro car. Outwardly, it looks unrealistically cool, brutal and noble. The car that I would admire forever

My first car was just like this one with the same motor. Didn't have to baby it , and it sure did take a beating. Wish I still had it!

My mother had a '64. Essentially the same car except for a minor grille chrome change. Passed my driver's license in it. Good times.

Yes sir. They discontinued around 56-57, and then AMC brought them back for a few years as a fuel efficient option for the Rambler American. It was a Nash motor too so I think it only has 5 main bearings. If you ever get the chance to drive one, take a second to appreciate the column shift 3 speed. If you've driven many, you know how sloppy they can be, but AMC's I've driven seem to give you a little more confidence that you have found, and are in gear. Those were great cars, as long as you weren't in a hurry or had too many long hills to cover.
