Update: The ASTM has changed since this video was published. 1521-19 (2020) at the time of this comment. Review section 7.3 Destructive Procedure. In addition, this video appears to be the incorrect procedure. The 3” cut along the substrate is only used when utilizing “Method B, Flap Pull” and should be pulled from the side of the joint. “Method A, Tail Pull”, which he performed in this video, requires a 6” cut along the substrate. A ruler or tape measure is needed to complete the test and report. Product specs from the manufacturer have the distance or % of movement allowed to determine a pass or fail. The ASTM has an example report form included with the ASTM.

One thing I found is if the other guy actually drags the tube across the top of the sand so you’re getting a constant stream of sand rather than a 3-4” section of sand in the hose and then a 6+” section of air, then the sand, air etc. it works better and you get further with less sand.

The tee-connection where sand is sucked into the nozzle must be kept swiveled ABOVE the nozzle, especially when you stop the water-flow...otherwise, a dribble of unpressurized water that's left in the wand will run right down into the dry sand that's still in the siphon hose and clog it with great regularity. I don't think I'd try to use one of these again without a full-time helper, if ever, because more time was spent unclogging and dealing with wet sand than was actually accomplishing the task at hand.

NOT HATING but, in my opinion, it would have been easier having an English version with Spanish subtitles or vice versa (Spanish with English subtitles).
