Gorgeous work Gerald. I loved the Awhitu Peninsula from Waiuku for 25 years, and a year ago, we moved here. It is a very special place of absolute beauty. I wake up every morning, look out the window, and the first word that comes to mind is paradise.

Thank you, Sharon, for your kind words. I have been living on the Peninsula for I think 10 years now & yes, it is certainly paradise for me too ... I'm in the little fishing village at Matakawau point as I love my fishing too xx

Same guy I commented on that last video you put up 2014 trip...5 guys 7 days(210 crays) not including the pots..not including all the other guys that go down once a year..all legal but is it SUSTAINABLE??..and the worst thing about you..you don't even eat the body...just the tail
@GeraldMuir3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lydia ... Thanks once again for this second comment & also i'll refer you to your 2014 trip comments & list the daily bag limits once again. I'm not shore about your comment or assumption that only the cray tails were kept though ... or are you assuming this ? ............... Limits on accumulation Within the Fiordland (Te Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Area, a limited defence provision exists to allow possession of accumulated rock lobster taken over 3 or more days in excess of the daily possession limit if: • not more than 15 rock lobster are possessed; and • the daily take limit of 6 rock lobster was not exceeded on any day; and • not more than 3 rock lobster were taken from the Milford Sound internal waters of Fiordland; and • in the case of rock lobster held on board or landed from a vessel, including rock lobster removed from any holding pot, the rock lobster are held in labelled containers or bags that: - contain only rock lobster taken on a single day; and - are clearly labelled to record: (i) the individual fisher’s full name; and (ii) the date on which the rock lobster was taken by the fisher; and (iii) the number of rock lobster held in the container or bag; and (iv) the number of rock lobster (if any) taken from the Milford Sound internal waters of Fiordland. In the case of rock lobster held temporarily in a holding pot at sea, the fisher maintains and is able to immediately produce upon the request of a Fishery Officer, a legible written record containing the following information: (i) the individual fisher’s full name; and (ii) the date on which the fisher took the rock lobster; and (iii) the number of rock lobster held in each rock lobster holding pot, including the number of rock lobster taken from within the Milford Sound internal waters of Fiordland; and (iv) the Global Positioning System (GPS) co-ordinates or physical location of each holding pot; and (v) The date on which the fisher removed rock lobster from each holding pot; and (vi) The number of rock lobster removed from each holding pot.

Gidday mate.i was only going off comments an visual of how many guys there were an how long u guys stayed there for,I just see a whole lot of crays that's all mate,I understand you label date an name as you have stated in both an in other comments to another person..I only assumed you guys only consumed tails due to watching your video in 2016 part 2 4:57 just cooking the tails..Don't see no sign of the heads etc....which is pretty dam good..I'm from the west coast south island..takes couple Days on foot or fly in to get there...as a kid I've grown up diving in front of our house/Bach an just told to get a feed..we had(an enjoyed) to eat every little bit of the cray I'm the 5th generation,great great great father built it(ngai tahu)..there were literally hundreds of crayfish.Boats come in take there LEGAL limits.my son has trouble getting a feed now,let alone my grandkids(mokos).I'm just putting it out there mate..get a feed an respect tangaroa(sea)that's all I'm saying mate..enjoy your diving 😌

@@lydiaparnell Hi Lydia ... yer, fare comments mate & i guess you only see what i edit .. to be fair !! . Yer we had all the bodies from the kia night boiling away out in the kitchen for Cray soup & stock for when we got back & i am always the first to spread the yellow of the inside on some fresh bread & butter as it is the best of all the creature for sure. Also i am aware that quite a few commercial Cray boats work in that area ?

30 a day.210 for the 7 days that's not including the pots aswell..you say that's once a year but how many other guys go an do the same thing and say the same thing.its all legal but is it SUSTAINABLE?..
@GeraldMuir3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lydia ... Thanks for your comments mate & yes ... Is the quoter system Sustainable ?. I believe that 4 crays per day is more than enough & have been pushing for this for many years. However i can recall this trip was for 4 days with 2 bins of 12 crayfish = 24 & quarter bin of Blue Cod in total. Iv'e documented the catch limits below for your reading & i'm guessing 2016 was our last trip into that area & not had the opportunity for the last 5 years since .......
