Good story. However, the F16 is flown by the US Air Force. The US Air Force does not have the the rank of "Commander", which is a US Navy and US Coast Guard rank. Also US military fighter planes always fly in pairs (as a minimum). If the story desires to have a single F16 versus many alien craft, then the story should state that the other F16 had to return to base due to a technical problem or something.
