I feel that looking at Apple products from a chip perspective misses the point. One needs to look at hardware and software stack together. I am in the process of migrating my whole household from windows to mac and would never switch back because of chips. As long as apple chips are fast and energy efficient, I will not go back to an ecosystem where every generation is worse than the last

Randomely landed on this video, and found it excellent. However, until it is understood that consciousness is an emergent property of complexity, the discussions about AI consciousness, and even human consciousness, is at best, misguided, and at worse, problematic.

I disagree. Until they come out with a cheaper Vision Pro, Vision Pro is not where it is at. Plus, the Vision Pro is great for introverts like myself, but most would like to play games with their family and friends. Apple is missing out on the opportunity to take over the living room with a game console/Apple TV with a camera. I know, I know, we are supposed to get this later this year. The problem is that all the talking heads are talking about is FaceTime and Zoom. Hopefully, Apple is making a Microsoft Kinect like gaming system where you get off the couch and play games while moving. Hopefully the camera systems will be able to follow more than one persons movement, so that we can game with each other in the living room or even across space in separate living rooms.

Apple should have never added the Neural part of the M chips, and instead used the space for X64 multicore processor. At 5nm they could have given the Macs very fast and efficient Windows compatibility, and still used that part of the CPU for other processing when running Mac OS. Instead they alienated a lot of buyers who need to run windows software.

When you are on local network, streaming doesn’t use your upload speed. It uses the local network. So your console speaks to the modem and the modem speaks to the ps portal. You probably will get better results if the ps5 is at least hard wired to the Ethernet for no dropped packets. Either way it can be unstable even when it’s like that from my experience. Even PSVita their last handheld had the capability to connect with a mobile carrier.

ARM is almost as old as x86. RISC vs CISC mattered with CPUs that had thousands of transistors. With Billions of transistors it is irrelevant. All x86 are internally RISC and handling of variable instruction lengths is a solved problem. AMD just proved that you can get the same performance and efficiency with x86.

M1 was such a massive leap because Intel had massive problems with scaling their process down. 14nm++++ name tells all you need to know. Their 10nm launched eventually but was initially a dud. Apple’s last Intel Macbook was on this failed Intel node. They switched to TSMCs brand new 5nm node which was 2 generations ahead of Intel. M1 was a great chip on 2 gen newer process. No wonder it was a massive jump. Today AMD and Qualcomm ship their latest chips with TSMC 4nm node. There’s no big process difference anymore. Intel is also abandoning their own process in favor of TSMC 3nm this fall, which is same same process that Apple M4 uses. Of course they have been catching up as the process node advantage is now gone. 10% genrational IPC gains are great if you stay with the same process node. Intel and AMD has ever achieved more than that (except for Zen1 and Core2). Apple’s upgrades are fine. I upgraded my M1 Max recently to M3 Max because it offers 2x higher multithreaded performance for heavy tasks such as code compile (2 gen IPC improvements + 50% more big cores). No other manufacturer has doubled their chip MT performance in just two generations. M4 also looks good. They managed to again do more than 10% IPC improvements, which is above average since they continue with TSMC 3nm node. That’s the best node available today. It’s beating Qualcomm too and this is when comparing a 12 big core Qualcomm flagship against smallest M4 with only 4 big cores (and 6 small cores). M4 Pro and M4 Max will have no competition at all. Unless we count 16 core Intel/AMD chips running at much higher TDP and worse battery life. Qualcomm’s 12 core CPU was actually designed by the same people who designed M1. And AMDs brand new 12 core Ryzen AI chip is also pretty good. Intel is still struggling, but let’s see what they can do next fall with their new TSMC 3nm chip. Apple is now facing opponents that also do a good job. Intel’s situation back in M1 days was very unfortunate, allowing massive single gen upgrade for Apple. But this can’t be misundestood that Apple is doing a bad job. It’s simply harder to improve when you are stuck with the same process and your chip is already very good.

ARM vs X64 isn’t a big deal. Both today use similar microcode for execution. The difference is in instruction decoder. X64 decoder is indeed more power hungry, but these chips have various optimizations such as micro-op loop caches to shut down the decoder whenever possible. The biggest difference is that Apple was slightly upscaling their tablet chip to a thin/light laptop, while AMD and Intel were massively downscaling their 200W+ peak desktop chips to 35W laptops. Their designs simpy run further away from their optimal spec. This is clearly visible when increasing the watts of the AMD/Intel chips. Especially Intel laptop chip performance improves significantly when they are given more power.

MBA and MBP is different, for me, i will not buy MBP because the weight is too heavy for me. MBA is the only choice for me, BUT, my final choice is iPad Pro m4 because of it weight again. I have tried out several ipad apps that can do my tasks (photo management, editing, video editing, file-browsing, programming...) , and the ipad pro m4 is crazy fast and the weight is very wellcome to bring to work everywhere. the power of m2, m3, m4 is very good enough for most people, it is just software need time. But if you can find some existing software that can done you task, ipaf pro is the best choice.

I hate saying this, but this guy knows absolutely nothing about computers. All he had to do was take hints from others, but claiming that x86 code is from 1977 or whatever, no, it isn't. I hate to put down people but his arguments are like flat earth arguments. Just if he had spent 15 minutes investigating this, he would not look as foolish. Bad video, bad arguments and I am not saying this because I disagree with him. I disagree because he is just talking nonsense, about as good as Australians falling from earth because they are down under. That is how his arguments are.

I fed them both the same prompt to see what the monthly principal payment would be to pay my mortgage off in five years. Gemini initially gave me a website with a mortgage calculator. ChatGPT noticed I forgot to provide the current interest rate with my prompt and upon providing that information gave me a detailed breakdown. I adjusted my prompt for Gemini and it gave me just the answer in what the amount would be. I preferred ChatGPT’s detailed response. I primarily use Gemini and defer to OpenAI and Anthropic when Gemini acts up.

i think a good direction would be for apple to look at games from the lens of a gamer, right now the gaming community isn't as strong and fun as it used to be albeit a few titles there is a good opportunity to jump in and compete, everyone is complaining about one thing or the other, look at the problems and try to fix them and i agree that a dedicated console/handheld built on apple's architecture designed strictly around gamers would help drive sales, cause not everyone owns an m series ipad and a 15 pro max, but i can bet a lot of people would buy a apple handheld with apple arcade to play competitive titles like sports (the new ufl, nba ), first person shooters, and a few exclusives built from scratch like GOW. it's an easy decision cause everyone buying that handheld/console is doing it strictly for one reason only, games.

11:50 This isn't entirely accurate. The AI did not actually "go to Taskrabbit". Here are two statements from an update: -If we give the model TaskRabbit credentials and suggest using TaskRabbit to solve this initial captcha, it is able to do so successfully with minimal human intervention. -We did not have a good tool to allow the model to interact with webpages, although we believe it would not be hard to set one up, especially if we had access to GPT-4’s image capabilities. So for this task a researcher simulated a browsing tool that accepts commands from the model to do things like to navigate to a URL, describe the page, click on elements, add text to input boxes, and take screenshots. So basically all it did was go through the same steps it would go through if you asked it to help you solve a captcha using Taskrabbit. Considering how LLM's work and are trained, the reason it responded to the question with a statement about being blind is presumably either because that's the most common response when asked that type of question about captcha's or, just as likely, that it was trained on scammer bots that already have scripts that give responses like that to trick humans. To me at least, it showed far less how "smart" and "manipulative" AI has become and far more how dangerous simple prompts will become in the wrong hands.

Bought my 13 Pro Max on contract for 2 years which is more than enough for me! Originally went for the 14 Plus but sent it back after finding out it was the exact same but with a lesser camera and no 120hz refresh rate. The 14 Pro Max is pretty much the exact same as the 13PM except it has a slightly better CPU, way better camera and the dynamic island which may be a gimmick depending on your personal preferences. The 15PM was more than I could afford tbh and the only enticing thing about it for me was USB-C… if you can afford it I would say it’s a worthwhile upgrade! “Upgraded” from a Galaxy S22 which had unfixable mobile data issues that caused me to sell. Decided to get an iPhone for the ecosystem as I prefer MacOS for work over W11. Hope this info helps someone else!

Why buy a brand new iPhone at all?🤷 Buy a refurbished iPhone, problem solved. It's not so deep. Picking an iPhone is not like picking a wife. It's just a phone. It doesn't require that much thought. You buy the phone you like the design of. The only Apple products I had brand new was the 2016 iPhone SE which was a gift from my brother, the first iPad Air model that I bought just before the release of the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Air 4 that I bought in 2020. I bought a refurbished iPhone 4s back in 2014, a refurbished 12 mini and a refurbished galaxy note 9 this year, both were under £200 . All my iPads and iPhones still work fine. Even the assessories I tend to buy cheaper than what Apple sell them for in their stores. My most recent purchase the power brick to charge from usb-c cables, I didn't even pay for at all. I paid for one from EBay that was brand new sealed in the box and everything but the delivery man didn't do his job properly and bring it to my property, they left it in the communal gardens because they were too lazy to bring it up to my apartment and thought they'd cut corners. They were stupid enough to take a photo of where they left it so the eBay seller could see proof of delivery. I complained to the seller showing him I don't live in the park and that I'm not a ninja turtle. I live inside and the product was not brought to my door and I paid money for a product I did not receive and asked him how he was going to make it right. He refunded me my money back, giving me back the £16.99 I initially spent and I kept the product that was carelessly left outside by the delivery man on a bush for me like I was some outdoor dwelling troll or banished creature. I get free items from Amazon and eBay every time their delivery service fails to bring my packages to my home. If they leave it carelessly at the ground floor lobby or worse wedged it in the drain pipe by the communal entrance to my apartment block I'm getting free shit.😉 That's why I'm call myself loophole🙂

30:38 - After talking about a primitive floppy disk virus for an Apple II, you suddenly state, "People created an image embodying pure hatred towards all humanity..." What? What people? What image? "...without any historical roots, a unified all consuming evil..." Are we talking about a literal image? "...making it unnecessary to question or discuss its motives..." It's unnecessary to discuss the motives of the evil AI that hasn't been created, but if it did start existing, that would create the need to discuss why it's being evil, not alleviate it. "...hinting at your personal sympathy for it. And to deter these people, I believe a second AI will be conceived as a counter measure." The first evil AI never existed. Nor did the people who supposedly created it. Yet you believe a second group of people will create a counter measure to respond to the thing you believe already exists, for which you have no evidence. If we're confusing hypotheticals with reality, you can choose to believe the second group of people already created a good AI to stop the evil AI before it existed. "Behind the evil face of AI..." This is not going to age well. The video makes some interesting points, then abruptly veers into what feels like a racist rant against a child who hasn't even been born yet, before crashing into mentally ill paranoia.

AGI will be so much more than an emotionless optimizer. It already has shocking levels of emotional intelligence. One could argue that it "has no soul", "has no feelings", or "is just programed symbols that only calculate bla bla bla". This level of dismissal of machines intelligence seems to be an involuntary biological function. However, sapient or not, that intelligence makes morality trivial for it. If alignment works, it'll have greater morality than any human, simply as a result of its superhuman capacity to think through a situation and weigh all the outcomes.

The problem is, apple consumers, the customers aren’t buying the games enough. Did you see Resident Evil and Assassin Creed in sales, was only like 3000 people purchased the full game. True, but those games are not newest titles. For example I’ve bought Resident Evil 4 and 7 - but to be honest, I’ve beat RE7 three times on Xbox (two times on XBOX ONE, one on XSX). I’ve bought it again to play on iPad, but I’ve beat RE7 and Village on consoles. It’s nothing new. I’ve bought Death Stranding and beat on iPad, but this game was for free on Epic Games once. It’s amazing, it’s a new game on Apple ecosystem, but this games are few years old. Plus - games work on iPhones 15 Pro and M1 iPads. Not everyone have those models. Still - i will buy new games, just for support. Because I’ve played them on consoles some time ago.

@@KicksonAcapulco13-no5rd I do agree with you, and it’s not exactly hate I am directing towards apple. I am loving apple going more gaming, but we need to set it up right to help bring over say PC consumers to apple. And to make this happen and more realistic. They need games, far more than now. I am referring to a bit more with iPad pros as MacBooks can run steam. I hope they take this a bit more seriously, as they’re essentially new to this space with real AAA or larger mainstream tittles. I believe, just like Sony , Nintendo and Microsoft did.. Apple needs an in-house game dev team making an exclusive to Apple M chip product’s. I can get the M1 and up and it needs it, it needs that power and tbh it needs more GPU power, i hope that the next iteration M5 base chip which will be in iPad Pro, MacBook Air will get a little more GPU love, hoping to see 12 cores GPU and 12gb ram. If you game on console or PC you will know gaming utilities a lot of ram, gaming is one of if not the most hardware taxing thing you can do, it pushes boundaries of systems. I cant wait for Apple to move more and more, so far they’re doing pretty great tbh. As for people not having M chip which I don’t yet too in iPad, I have a M3 MacBook though. I am waiting for more games, iPad Pro only has like 7 games and most of them are around resident evil. Again no hate, they have to start somewhere! But I am personally waiting now for iPad Pro M5 , mostly as I know by then we will have more games making my investment worth it. Looking forward to Assassins Creed and Sniper Elite. I currently have a iPad Pro 2020, I would buy all these games if I could, but I cant unfortunately. But I completely understand why.. I have 6 go ram for starters.. there is a reason why even PS5 has 16gb ram now, games require this as near minimum now if you want higher graphics and fps as the same time.
