Straw is better then hay for bedding. The hollow stalk makes it great for it's insulating quality. You already know by now that they bury themselves in it and stay toasty warm. If they eat it, just adds fiber to their diet and helps them generate body heat through the act of digestion. Straw is perfect.

@@FP1989 yes so I’m going with cattle Page wire there’s different kinds. This is 49 inches high. I guess that’s standard for cattle or horses. Alternatively, you would just use Barbwire or electric fencing, but Page wire is your best bet to keep things out and in, however, a little more pricey.

We had two pig when I was a youngster that we got to name one was for our family and the other for Dad's sisters family I remember the pen by the barn and watching Lester Pearson and John Deifenbaker doing their thing I remember mum and gram making head cheese 😮 nothing goes to waste if you know somebody with the know how 🎉❤🎉I liked store bought bacon better oh well 😂

Suggestion for down the road (long down on the list of things you're doing), look into a Wireless Mic of some kind. Audio makes a big difference. I found you through Greg Judy and I too have learned so much about herding about forage plants and how seeds survive in the soil it's a fascinating subject. I never planted clover and have owned my property since 1979 a few years ago yellow clovers started blossoming in front of the house. See you in the next one🎉❤🎉

Looks great! We have UV lights on the barn well and the house well. We have to have potable water because of the milking equipment. UV light is attached to the water line in the barn and house...kills any bacteria that may be in the ground water.

Hi, i just found this interview accodently. I'm originally from Cape Breton now living on the mainland. My brother in- law's half brother was Joe King who worked on the Eyking farm for many years. And coincidentally, I happen to be visiting my brother in- law at his cottage in Cape Breton today. Interestingly, the Cape Breton Highlands are actually part of the Appalachians mountains range. Best of luck to Jonah on his farm adventure and to the couple coming to our beautiful part of the world!
