Mine just arrived and Wow, this pedal exceeded my expectations. I am VERY picky about ODs. I could not get on with the green side of the Protien, also inspired by the ODR-1, but there was ultimately a harshness I couldn’t get past. There is nothing harsh about the Karma ODR-10. It’s about as natural, and organic of a gain sound as I’ve ever experienced from an OD pedal. I got a great sound out of it immediately.

People use it in many ways, but personally I like it as a low to medium gain OD. The 3-band EQ gives you many options from relatively "flat" to drastic cut/boost.

The latest version of the AnalogMan King of Tone can be run with 18V power, which provides a little more max volume and noticeably less compression / more clean headroom. The more open sound is very pleasant to my ears. I think you are experiencing the same thing here. Modern op amps can run from even higher voltage, but the limiting factor is usually the voltage rating on any electrolytic capacitors. Also you don't want to smoke the input circuitry on the next pedal with a super hot audio signal.

I got the ODR-10 as soon as Greg announced it, since I already had the MTN-10 which is a fantastic pedal too. I love the ODR-10, to me it does the ODR-1 thing but with "more"! My ODR-1 mini and ODR-1 BC sound muffled and dull compared to the ODR-10. I used the ODR-1's mainly as a clean boost, but the ODR-10 can do that but also sounds great when you turn up the drive!

Thanks Joe! I posted this re 18v: "A couple of you have asked me about running the ODR-10 on 18v vs 9v. I know Tim Pierce is running his at 18v, but he hasn't really A/B'd it at 9v. I did some testing: > Running it at 18v is fine, the circuit can handle it > At 18v there is a roughly 1db dip in the low end starting at ~200hz. That may make the pedal sound brighter and a touch more "open". I don't find the difference dramatic, but YMMV; it doesn't hurt to try both!"

Just got my pedal today, and wow. You guys didn’t just nail it, you may have surpassed it! I don’t remember my old Nobels sounding this good!This thing sounds incredible! For anyone reading this and wanting details on my rig, here you go: 90% of the time I’m running a Super or a Pro Reverb, drip edge models and earlier (‘64-‘69). I can’t speak for any other amps, but with my Blackface/Drip Edge Silverface amps, this pedal stacks perfectly with the Karma MTN-10 (Ibanez Mostortion clone), because it has the 3-band EQ that allows me cut a little bass at higher gain levels. As you know, Tim, when you start to crank up Blackface Fenders, they get increasingly “woofy” and loose in the bottom end, but the MTN-10’s 3-band EQ can cut a little or all of the low end out, depending on where the part needs to sit in the mix. I’m actually running the MTN in front of the ODR, which I thought would be the other way around, but the MTN is so great at the slight breakup tones, that I can take advantage of the ODRs gloriously fat overdrive to handle my mild to medium overdrive duties. Stacking them gets me to medium + gain levels, then I use a Crowther Hot Cake for the heavy/light fuzz distortion category. As a matter of fact, I use the MTN-10 to goose the Hot Cake also, and poke its insanely thick distortion tones through the mix as well! That said, I haven’t found a bad tone in this thing. Even if I had to run the ODR-10 alone in a high gain situation, I could run the Bass on my amp at zero and achieve similarly great results. I can’t thank you and Greg enough for taking on these projects. These two pedals will never leave my board!

@karmaguitaramplifiers7967
@karmaguitaramplifiers7967 Жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, I'm not sure Tim monitors this, so I'll answer for you. They are very different circuits; the MTN-10 models an Ibanez Mostortion and the ODR-10 models an early 1990s Nobels ODR-1. I think of the MTN circuit as more of a low to mid gain pedal - it even does almost-cleans pretty well and I think of it a bit like a Blackface amp whereas the ODR circuit may lean more towards Tweed with its great classic rock lead tones. Hope that helps!

You can plug the 1/4" output into your guitar amp and listen for the difference in hum, just know that the difference may be hard to discern with some caps.
