A wonderful alaap, a tribute to his guru and BGAK and the Patiala Kasur gharana. Time he was given the Bharat Ratna, a campaign should be started now. The student, preoccupied with vocal dexterity, may have missed the devotional fervour but his harmonium accompaniment made up for it. It was a perfect foil to Panditji. I personally adored the alaap though I can't say the drut affected me much... Tabla, well, here was no Mian Shaukat Hussain, nor Pinky, perhaps the elegance of tabla accompaniment comes with age and acquired with wisdom...

Now 61, I have been listening to Ustadji with Sri Swapan Chowdhury from my childhood. Never heard any other Sarodia or Sitari with more depth and imagination comparable to Ustadji's. And always found Swapan ji as the ideal accompanist, always playing to support, not to surpass. And his sound production is so aristocratic!
