I bring a spinner set up on every trip. Screw the west cost stigma. Always come prepared.

Hey, Eric! I went out on the Endeavor for an overnight on Saturday. There was a ton of squid, so it was easy for the deck hands to make bait. No one caught a Seabass, but someone did land a over thirty pound Yellowtail. One Yellowtail broke off. Someone landed a Yellowtail on a private boat and as you showed someone landed one on the Mirage. By no means wide open, but be prepared just in case. As you know they fight alot harder than a Seabass.

You can change the screen time out on the iPad. It’s easy…… Go to SETTINGS…. select DISPLAY AND BRIGHTNESS…… TAP AUTO LOCK….. Then choose your time…..like 5 minutes. It’s probably on 30 seconds….

I really appreciated the last 4 minutes of this vid amigo. Don't know how old you are but must be around my age (57) I was Born & Raised in Pedro. Pinned and decked 22nd st and port's o'call. Managed Paul's Bait & Tackle. Co-Managed Queens wharf with the Ashley's for a bit. I remember throwing 'chovies on 12# mono at Clemente for 30# bluefin like it was yesterday :) I just had 2 rods made at Performance with Tommy in May (690j & 100j acid wrapped) LOVE that guy!! I mentioned you one day. He said he knew you well. Anyway, I just wanted to say I deeply appreciate your experience and knowledge my friend. Cheers!! - Troy Barnum

The reason I watch your program is because I think you are a straight shooter. Yes that is a old Sportfishing saying. It meant somebody who didn’t put out bum dope,or jacked up his fish count,or called you in after it was all over. Also if somebody said my last stop was a nice little shooter it most likely meant he had 20,30,or more albies out of it. And I really enjoy your info on calico bass thank you and please keep going. So Mexican reds are not good ? That would be cool if you can show people how set up the boat for rock fishing
@eriklandesfeind77238 күн бұрын
In my opinion, Mexican Reds are the worst tasting rockfish there are, followed closely by Salmon Grouper. That being said, I'm a picky fish eater. I will definitely put together an episode on boat positioning for rockfish.

I’m just getting into fishing and I like your content. But I find it very hard to grasp most of your instructional videos because of all the “fishing slang” aka jargon that you use when describing techniques. It’s not just you, it’s every fishing channel I watch.

Fished the Pride out of 22nd, left Sunday 8:00 pm went out to the Tanner got one small BFT and one other caught. Decided to head for Clemente about 2 hrs from the island ran across a kelp patty holding bait and BFT 30-50. Boat picked up 14 of those. Got to San Clemente and loaded up on squid. Fished Catalina in the am/greylight for 4 WSB. Ended up with two BFT and one WSB not bad for a November trip

Rolling out on a full day tomorrow morning! You are absolutely right about getting too sucked in on fish counts. I think the issue is more in this economy people are really trying to budget for a loved hobby but also want to be successful and catch stuff. Either way, you are right, the experience is what is important. Tight lines!

Your report reminded me of when I was a teenager and it seemed like the season would start with baracuda and then thousands of sandbass. Always wondered why it just stopped. I guess things change. Also think the tuna cycle will eventually end and all the 4-6 pack charters are gonna be hurtin when it does.

Thanks for the report, tips, and good rant. I probably starting fishing on sportboats back when you did, the early eighties. Malibu boats mostly, but some Ventura/Oxnard trips. Went I went on a trip out of Ventura last month, we caught mostly ocean whitefish, with a few lings and rock fish. You were talking about the types of fish that were around, and maybe aren't anymore, and others that have become more common, etc. I'm darn curious as to where the heck ocean whitefish came from. I don't remember every catching one or hearing of them back in the eighties. I'd be interested in hearing your take on that. Maybe I was sleep-fishing during the eighties, and missed the whitefish? But hey, I was young. Thanks again. Cheers.
@robertmitchell63159 күн бұрын
Did the same as you Malibu and Channel islands. I remember Santa Rosa white fish back then and they were huge like 6-10 pounds limits were bigger back then so no need to fish for them Now everyone wants their 20 fish limit (10 rockfish and 10 whitefish).
@eriklandesfeind77239 күн бұрын
The whitefish were definitely around back then. Won my first jackpot with one on the Toronado back in 1982 lol
@MrRoundel8 күн бұрын
Thanks, gents. I guess I was sleep-fishing through the eighties. I thought they might be some sort of invasive species or something (Half kidding.) Admittedly, I did fish more out of Malibu, on the Lenbrooke and/or Aquarius. Paradise Cove for the occasional Speed Twin twilight trip. The kind of numbers of ocean whitefish that I see in the fish counts out of Ventura blows my mind. They did seem pretty easy to catch. And, as a few people told me, it did make good ceviche. Cheers.
