Mate, don't wear one if you haven't earned the right to. By the way, the chin strap goes to the front and if your gonna fold the side up, at least clip it on properly. And if you do fold up the side, don't bend the brim forward. The Puggaree is wrong too. It should angle into a V shape at the front.
@xamper75436 жыл бұрын
How about you fuck right off and not where something that some of us EARNED, DESERVED and DIED UNDER!!! As a former Australian Army Infantry soldier who wore an ACTUAL slouch hat, this is fucking disgusting!!! If you want to own a slouch hat, fine, by all means go ahead. But actually buy a proper one. Don’t go half ass making your own pathetic rip off!! And certainly don’t go wearing it around unless you actually earned it. And a few other points that make this even worst. 1 that puggaree is horribly wrong. The puggaree itself holds a lot of meaning and is not just some random band around the hat. Look it up. And 2, it’s called a CHIN strap, NOT a back of the fucking neck strap!! It is worn ON the chin. Not behind the head, not under your neck and not sitting between your chin and your lower lip. ON YOUR CHIN!!!

I like that type of bash, I bought my first slouch hat from David Morgan in 1980, I have it shaped the current Australian Military style, low bash, love the hat, back then you could get the hat with the regulation military Puggaree hat band.

I wear a slouch hat regularly when I camp, hike or fish. It's not an Aussie military one, rather one I made myself and it's been all over the world with me. I have an owlets feather in mine taken from an owl on the island of Tanna in the Republic of Vanuatu. I have a totenkopf pin on the front as well and various other pins that have some significance to me. I prefer the slouch hat for the outdoors simply because it's just enough to keep the sun out of my eyes, keep my head cool and is more aerodynamic, especially when boating or on a windy day. Also, the way I sling my Lee Enfield over my shoulder, it keeps the barrel from knocking your hat off since the side I pinned up is the side I sling my rifle on. So it all works out and I get people who ask me all the time where I got my hat. I think you can take just about any old wide brim felt hat and convert it into a slouch hat. That's just my opinion. My other slouch hat is a replica of a German South West Africa Shutztruppe slouch hat.

I wonder what an ANZAC soldier would say if you told him in 100 years his hat would be worn on the otherside of the world and people would bitch because the guy pinned up one side and bend the brim down a bit. It would be disrespectful to wear it and tell people oh ya i was in the ADF, or dress it all up with badges and Emu plume and wear it all fucked up, but to take a basic hat and wear it to suit your needs isnt disrespectful. Opposite really, people will ask about it with interest and people who otherwise would never learn of the anzacs will here a story of their deeds. Its no different than someone wearing a stetson hat in the US and some guy getting angry because our CAV soldiers wear them and their stetson isnt inline with the army rules for wear of it.
@cullummartin91648 жыл бұрын
+jason hunt Well i happen to be in the Australian Army i trained at Kapooka in New South Wales, Wagga Wagga and to desecrate a hat that was worn by fighting men and women its a disgrace to me you do not tamper with Australian History.
@jasonhunt192018 жыл бұрын
Well I dont see how you can claim its wrong to wear a hat that is really not much different from any other brimmed hat. Not to mention many different armies had worn them before the Australians. I served in the American army as an Infantryman. I also wore a stetson hat when I wasnt on duty. Our cav units wear stetsons as well. Nobody ever said anything or bitched because my hat was made by the same company that makes the hats for the cav guys. Now if I had put on army pugarree and military pins that I hadnt earned there would have been hell to pay but just wearing a model of hat is not being disrespectful because soldiers happen to wear it also.

dont worry mate im a serving member in the ADF combat engineers. and i couldn't care less about how people wear the hat. cadet net is just a flog. good on this bloke for getting a hat and giving it ago and id be surprised if anyone i worked with thought any different

Australian here.. its a hat if u don't have the confidence don't wear it. not hating here (as English can be fun like that) i just got my slouch today. the slouch is worn on Anzac Day and remembrance day as a sign of respect and formality. worn down like a normal hat every other day. Hats are to your style only do what u want with them

this is all wrong...... the "flap" is never up only in ceremonial events and you never put it up without the rising sun badge attached to it you do not wear this like a hat either the brim needs to be flat with the ground when you have your head at a resting position and the edge of the hat needs to come just touch your eye brows also the brim SHOULD be ironed flat but some aren't game enough to do this also you always must wear the chin strap it needs to be tight with the fixed buckle just on the corner of your eye and the movable buckle just on the corner of your mouth the strap should come just under the front of your chin

The brim is not straight and the chin strap should sit comfortably on your chin with the clip on your left cheek in line with you lips, and dont have the brim bent, it is actually dis honorable to Australian Veterans
@roybear905210 жыл бұрын
Lolz ur wearing it backwards lol click on my KZbin Channel and look at my channel art. And the KFF that is wat it is called originally had the right side pinned up so you could look your commanding officer in the eye as he inspected your dress and also so it was easy to aim but when the Australian army adopted the KFF in 1896 by Conole Tom Price's design with the left side up so u don't stab ur hat with ur bayonet/rifle when on ground or shoulders. But yer good job mate I like it that u would get a KFF its a nice hat and I love mine. You should purchase a rising sun pin and put the on the left side now im not going into a history lesson on the rising sun badge cause it'll take to long XD one more thing it is called a slouch hat because it was originally worn with the front and the back slouching down and if you want to members of the Australian army or cadets can still wear it like that but as u can see by my pic I like mine straight but good vid mate XD

hello just to say the reason the hat has a hook on the left side of the hat is so when the soldier did his left shoulder arm s he did not knock his hat of due to the rifle at the time these came out in the British army was during the Boar War which as we all know the Australians and the kiwis took part in as well now the kiwis put a different stile cress in theres more like the RCMP the British like the Chindits use just a central cress the Australians did a block which looks alot like a stetson sitle as the stetson was becomeing popular in Australia due to the imigration of some Amarican cowboys to Australia after the amaricain civel war
@bigballs123ization7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarifying that for everyone. And that's exactly right - a soldier would march on parade at left-shoulder arms. As a matter of fact, I would always shoot my rifle with my right eye up close to the rear sight aperture and the brim of my cover hooding the rear sight from glare or rain. An interesting question would be do the ADF chaps always wear the brim up or only when on parade while under arms? What a great hat though. Cheers

That sir is a fine looking hat, this Australian is happy to see Americans and other overseas people purchasing one of the "few left" quality Aussie products. I'm after this hat myself in a few months (poor student). Its a perfect hat and its wide brim is ideal for any sunny climate. Just remember when putting it on don't "pinch" the front of the crown otherwise it makes a split, just place on the head and push down firm.

I agree. I have a few Akubra (territory, Pilbara and Coober Pedy) and love them all, but lately I have been harassed (online) by people that tell me that wearing one is offensive because it is cultural appropiation (as I'm not Australian). Will keep wearing them regardless (they are great ant the sun is more offensive) and I'm even thinking of getting an Akubra Colly.
