I'm just 18 years old and I just discovered the concept of paradoxical breathing today, and from what I read, paradoxical breathing is a rare condition and occurs mostly in young children, due to blunt injury, trauma, or some thoracic or pulmonary disease or something else. So during paradoxical breathing, the lungs moves opposite to the direction of regular breathing movement patterns. i.e; during normal inspiration the lungs (chest) move upwards (rises) (intrathoracic pressure decreases on expansion) and the diaphragm moves downwards, but in paradoxical movement, during inspiration the lungs move backwards (collapses) and the diaphragm moves upwards. The same goes for expiration where the opposite of normal expiration (intrathoracic pressure increases on contraction) happens where the lungs rise instead of collapsing and the diaphragm moves downwards instead of upwards. In case of injury to the thorax, paradoxical movement can be assessed by broken ribs, either 3 or more consecutive broken ribs in 1 or 2 or more sides of the chest wall. Breathing will be paradoxical at the site of injury. The subject feels an increase in pain upon inspiration. There can be potential pulmonary injury or to any veins or even the lungs. Diagnosis can be by using splint, or pressure applied to the chest, physiotherapy, and other ways appropriate. Please let me know if I've made any mistakes and I'm always open to correction and new information. Thanks for reading 💜

There's also a technique in taoism and Tai Chi were you pull the abdomen in were you breathe in and you allow the abdomen to relax when you breathe out True paradoxical breathing causes the chest to get sucked in on the inbreath, and for the chest to expand on the out-breath.

Although many people can have issues with a hunchback (i.e., an overly-rounded thoracic spine), others may have the issue of a FLAT thoracic spine. The thoracic spine (the mid-spine) must have a slight rounding, in order to allow proper shoulder function and breathing. So this movement, with the legs pressed into the knees, forces the air you breathe in to the back, expanding the back ribcage, and restoring the thoracic rounding.

Two questions: Is this exercise good for improving Internal hip rotation &, is it normal for my adductors to be sore after doing this?

You should expect an improved internal rotation of the left hip and adductors on the left side should get sore.
