When I was younger I tried to drive as fast as possible on the Autobahn. But I realized that it does not really make sense, when I had to drive from the Ruhrdistrict to somewhere near Passau for several times. Driving as fast as possible ended in an average speed of 130 because of the traffic. Driving at a maximum of 120 made an average of ca. 115 on a length of about 630 km. BUT: I had to make a rest at a fuel station when driving so fast because i had to fill up my tank. It was not necessary when driving slower. So the half hour I saved by driving fast turned out to be a quarter of an hour. After driving fast I was stressed and needed some time to calm down what was not necessary when driving calm. So in the end there was no minute saved but money spent because of the higher use of fuel. After I had thought about that I changed my behaviour on the Autobahn. The result is almost no lost time but less stress, more safety and more money.

Advisory speed on the Autobahn is 130 kph, so if you're driving 120, you are the one who has to justify that (in this case, weather and light conditions are valid explanations). Since the road conditions are splendid and there's not much traffic, there really is no problem with going faster if you do it in a responsible fashion and are skilled enough to do so. We had a desiel 3 series BMW. We are averaging 195km/h (120mph) for 45 minutes and had a top speed of 215km/h (130mph) I don't understand why the person is driving so slowly. Conditions look safe and there is no traffic... Drive faster
