did your headlamp run out and you had to charge it?

My headlamp will last a few hours at full lumen so I bring a rechargeable swappable battery. I also bring a power bank to recharge my phone/watch/gopro.

What an accomplishment! Congrats! Also, carb loading is no joke: I have a memory from eating at a college caf when I was a kid while a national basketball tournament was underway. Players would have mountains of corn and rice on their plates and finish it all.

Congrats on sub 3! Can u give tips on leg strengthening exercises to reduce leg cramps?
@HideY6133 ай бұрын
Hi! Where do you get cramps? Cramping may mean that you’ve fatigued out that particular muscle group by going too far or too hard or both. Longer runs and more ‘strength running’ - longer tempos, faster intervals, or hills may help. For strength exercises, I only do when injured or feeling like I might be imbalanced. I like Single legged exercises (lunges, dead lift, step ups) with not too heavy weight, banded stuff to work abductor/adductor, glute bridges, calf raises. And in the off season do ‘heavier’ stuff like squat and deadlifts.

How to do you compare this to IM MT?
@HideY6133 ай бұрын
I did IM MT in 2018 - there will be notable differences across all three sports. Swim - Ottawa: two laps in a river, relatively shallow, may be warmer vs one lap of a deep lake at MT; Bike - Ottawa: over 1000m less elevation gain, no sustained climbs like Conception or Duplessis; Run - again probably ~100m less elevation gain in Ottawa, mostly parkways or path alongside. I think crowd support will be super in Ottawa as the parkways and running paths are in the core of downtown or near residential areas.

@@HideY613 thanks Mate! Great info. So 11-26 cassette with standard 53 chainring would be good set up for the bike.
@HideY6133 ай бұрын
I haven't run a 53 in a long time! but yes, the rollers are pretty mild. I think you'll have momentum to coast over most of it. I'll be running a 50 chainring but with a tighter 11-23 cassette. So pretty comparable.

When I did the CSM last year the hay was very uncomfortable, do you find that your sleeping pad helps with comfort?
@HideY61310 ай бұрын
i like having the pad because it adds cushion and warmth. And it's what i'm used to! use it on all my camping and bike packing trips. The first year i slept on the hay, i didn't lay it out very well and i found myself rolling off of it. This year i took more time and laid it flat.

Hello Hidetake , i am on my wife account wright now , my name is Jean-Leon Marcoux and i would like to thank you for the 3 videos you made about Canadian ski marathon , you made an excellent job making them and i really appreciated all 3 of them. i am taining for next year marathon by skiing classic on roller skis and i would like to know more about how you train for the marathon ? If you can give me a few tips i would be very happy . Thank you very much and best regards , J-L .
@HideY613 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jean-Leon thanks for the message! I had a great time at my first real-life gold camp. The ski season leading up to the CSM is kind of short starting in late Dec (if we're lucky). I usually try to build up distance over the weeks and aim for ~60-70km with a full pack by late Jan. I might do 1-2 shorter skis during the week. I usually come into the winter pretty fit doing swim, bike, run in the summer and fall. I think that's important. I've never tried roller skiing!! Good luck with your training!
@diannak3817 Жыл бұрын
Thank you Hidetake for answering so fast , this will encourage me in my training . I did buy my roller skis 3 mounts ago and i am up to 114 km all ready . I am also gathering all the equipment i kneed for the event and i am enjoying every minute of it . Wish you all the best and good luck with your training too . J-L . P.S. Can't wait for the snow to come , then i will train on real skis in the Gatineau Parc . @@HideY613

For this Sunday, would you recommend slicks or treads for tires? I got a pair of 37mm WTB Riddlers and 37mm Panaracer Gravelking slicks, I usually ride slicks. Just worried about rain/mud/traction. Thanks for sharing the recon vid!
@HideY613 Жыл бұрын
I was riding 40mm semi slicks at ~30lbs pressure and did not feel out gunned at all. The majority of the route is on tarmac or very packed gravel/dirt road; so depends where you want to put your priorities - speed on the road or security on the muddy sections. I heard the city was putting down fresh gravel on some sections as well - some more traction might be nice there too. Let me know what you choose and all the best tomorrow!!
