I had turned 44 the day before. What a birthday present it would be to watch this great show by the fabulous Elton John. Today, 19 years later, I can watch it peacefully at home on my Motorola smartphone. Elton will always be among us, even after a long time. ✨🌟 🇧🇷

This is my favorite Elton album. I could go on for hours about it. It was the first album I bought with my own money. I was 14 YOA at the time. Probably my most played album of all time. Thanks you so much for posting this. I wish this would get a big re-release with bonus tracks.

I can't argue with you. My personal favorite is Blue Moves, but then, Elton can't do anything wrong. FYI: The album did get a re-issue in 1998 with the non-album single Ego with four B-sides added. Unfortunately, he made one misstep and that would be the follow up album, Victim of Love. I wasn't a bad album because it was a disco album, but it was just a bad album.

I think (and I could be wrong - in fact, I probably am wrong) that ‘Indian Maiden’ comes from closer to the Caribou sessions? It sounds like something he may have recorded as a demo for a vocalist. If anyone knows more than I do, I’d love to hear from you.

Seems I tried looking up the date on this back when I was putting together a chronology of his catalog and I failed to locate a date. Some believe Elton didn't write it, but I ran across a lyric sheet with the caption circa 1970 at the bottom. Some others insist he did write it as a novelty, but I don't know and I doubt Elton could tell you himself. Things were pretty crazy at the time, so don't count on an accurate timeline.

@@tas6313 Thanks! I suppose there’s also that the audio quality makes it harder to pinpoint where in the timeline it was as it’s more difficult to detect the timbre of his voice. I don’t think I’ve heard the theory that Elton didn’t write it at all, but it’s certainly interesting!

1:13:22 Indian Maiden (unreleased demo) The lyrics are so silly that only Elton could have written them. And according to a Chinese theme in the middle, he must have traveled to China instead of India to see this girl, so he never released this song because he was angry and tired of the stupid idea of marrying a Chinese woman. I'm kidding🤣(no I'm not) I can also hear the influence of Yoko Ono in this song. I love Elton so much he is the silliest human in the world 🤣🤣🤣

I strongly disagree, I don’t think Nigel would have made this Album as good. Having listened to all eras in many forms outside of early performances such as the 111770 era, he was never up to snuff as a live drummer in concert. In the studio he had his moments, he sings like a bird, and songs like grey seal and curtains , I give him credit amazing definitive drumming, however , he rejoined ej early this century , since 2000 I’ve seen ej 10-20 times., he’s improved his ability to keep time, but amazing drumming, I have not heard, and if you listen to 82-84, those tempos were terrible, and I saw him 3 times 82-84. I think it was time to change drummers, had he kept Dee that probably would have worked , but , to do so probably would have been difficult as DEE and Nigel were always such good friends. WESTIES AND BLUE MOVES TO ME are underated albums, different, But that’s why ej has lasted. Adding Caleb and Roger pope and the amazing James Newton Howard, also gave the band a solid sound that was needed and prominent in 1975 with the doobie brothers, and the stones and the eagles etc. I can’t think of any song, after 1975, that Nigel has given definitive drumming on in the studio, or in concert, in fact some of his greatest fills like on don’t let the sun, or Saturday nite , or someone saved my life tonight, can only be heard in concert, when other drummers are in his band…for example, don’t let the sun, the fill after ej sings. “ to help them heal” Nigel does great on record. In concert it’s missing,unless Charlie Morgan or someone else is playing the song. If you can find a good Nigel fill, I’d love to hear it, often when ray cooper plays Nigel is better.
