It’s not worth £250. I did it once when a 1st class seat was on sale fro £90 and it was just about worth it, but unless there is standing room only in standard class it’s not worth it.

I wouldn’t change too much, as long as the new owners keep it clean and maintained. There is space for hotels like this as long as they sit in the right value band. The character and history is great. Wholesome filling breakfasts are good but there should be nothing tasteless or spoiled. There must be some money ladling out scrambled eggs from a bucket at those prices. When traveling I always find hotel breakfasts overpriced and disappointing, prefer to get up early and go and find some local character place. Oh and the locks, they would be a relief for me instead of endless swipe cards and programming mistakes.

Railway Station not train station, fewer people not less people. I do agree with much of what you said however, I travel to/from King's Cross often and the difference in cost from standard to first class is not worth it, when the QR code refreshments booking was introduced the staff were as unaware as the customer as to how it worked and a combination of old and new styles were used until all parties became familiar with what should be done, it was more of a sideways step than an advance on what had been in place, in fairness covid played a big part in getting it started, but the details must have been worked out by some alien species and implemented without consultation or trial (it appeared to be alright on paper, the reality was very different). A quick note, if only more stations were more like Kings Cross and less like St Pancras, though St Pancras is a stunning building, pity about the station.

Issue with Grand Central is its reliability which must concern corporate users. Part of GC's fleet consists of elderly 180 diesel units which are known to have mechanical issues. You were lucky in that the train you travelled on, which was an 180 unit, worked okay.
@siobhanbrewer5 ай бұрын
Oh wow, I didn't know that! Good to know for the future. I usually stumble into being quite lucky sometimes, it's true haha!
@alexmcwhirter66115 ай бұрын
@@siobhanbrewer No problem. Not all GC's trains are operated by these 180s which usually operate the route Kings Cross-York-Sunderland. Other train firms (GWR, Hull Trains, East Midlands Rail) also operated the 180s for a while but they got rid of them (because of the 180's unreliability) and GC I suppose acquired them at a good price !
