Nice radio, sad it does not have color screen and the nice user interface that comes with color screens and touchscreen. I was waiting and holding my $ for new RM radio but was expecting color touch screen. I fly line of site gliders, planes, jets and I have quite a lot to configure in radio. Screen and interface is important aspect in this part of the hobby. I fly FPV only occasionally, in FPV you have less requirements for radio user interface and more for goggles OSD.
@xymaryai82833 күн бұрын
to be fair, you don't get much benefit from Gemini Xrossband if you're flying Line Of Sight, it makes sense that a XB radio would focus almost exclusively on FPV. but i agree, it does seem like *almost* the perfect radio, and a full colour touchscreen is the only thing missing.

Lol what. Fine you use subtrim to set center. Let say 10. Then from 10 to 70 you have 60 travel but from 10 to -70 you have 80 travel. So please tell me how that makes any sense Either you don't have full travel one way / more the other or if they travel the same physical distance the sensitivity to one side is higher than the other... So which one is it???

*****Serious safety issues with Nexus to be aware of***** This is addressed to anyone whom I am aware of that has been part of the testing phase of Nexus…please send it onto the Radiomaster team as an urgent request. Rotorflight and Nexus needs to resolve its flight tuning issues. Currently the novice helicopter pilot is in danger of crashing their helicopter when they follow the Rotorflight instructions. The instructions suggest to keep increasing certain Flybarless controller functions on the Nexus controller until the helicopter wobbles, shakes or shudders. When a helicopter wobbles, shakes or shudders it is out of control and is likely to crash especially if you are a novice and are hanging onto every control command. It is unacceptable to expect customers to carry out tuning in this manner especially when the instructions are hardly adequate. The filter section in Rotorflight manual is very badly explained and it is unlikely for a beginner or intermediate to the hobby to have a clue of what Rotorflight want you to do after reading the entire section. Jonas Wackershauser has made a novel and brave attempt at explaining filters with his videos but it is still not satisfactory as he makes statements like ‘you may be able to disable this filter later’ without much explanation and also says ‘it’s a good idea to enable these ‘ and here again is grey area and looks like it is hit and miss. So now when we look at the Rotorflight instructions it states clearly the following :‘caution Please start by confirming your filters are working correctly before you increase your tuning parameters. If you do not have filters enabled it is particularly important that you do not use Derivative. This can result in hot Motors and Servos.’ This statement is fine assuming that Rotorflight has already explained how to correctly set up filters and finally know if they are working correctly or not……….basically looking at the following and according to the Rotorflight manual it states the following : ' A good filter tuning should be just strong enough to suppress the peaks in the gyro readouts. A filter too weak may have peaks leaked inside the loop, and a filter too strong, while making the gyro signal clean, may lower the maximum gains later which cause a "sloppy" and delayed feel.’ Well I say dream on to that statement as Radiomaster has not taken the steps necessary to explain fully about the filters and how to achieve these goals. I come from a hardware log decode background and have done hardware component design and I for one know that this hardware configuration setup is unsafe and seldom achievable as the end user is trying to look at the helicopter for flight characteristics and simultaneously changing variables in the Rotorflight configurator which are not fully known nor fully explained. Rotorflight should at least have a server online where we submit our logs after a test flight and this server should come back and make recommendations and changes to our logs each time until the unit is correctly setup with filters and PIDs and after this the pilot can tweak if desired at their own risk. The bottom line is that the Nexus unit in not currently fit for purpose as the setup phase is incomplete especially due to the criticality of its potential danger and impact. Failing this approach we should be able through Rotorflight to put the Nexus into learn mode and it should correct the filters and apply suitable PIDs through its own hardware. Are we to believe that Rotorflight team does not have a facility to compile and decode logs during their own build and test phase? Do we really think the firmware folk fly the Heli each time and come back in and adjust settings like Jonas suggests? Looking at the filters log without any in-depth explanations are a bit intimidating to say the least. I setup three Helis on Rotorflight already and all three had sloshy tails so knowing filtering is critical before PID tuning. Jonas is clearly taking a stab in the dark when it comes to filters and is obviously still learning himself, as he finishes this section quickly without any real conclusions but then his explanation is much better than the Rotorflight manual which is even worse as it only touches on the subject. The Rotorflight manual states the following: 'Caution note? Please start by confirming your filters are working correctly before you increase your tuning parameters. If you do not have filters enabled it is particularly important that you do not use Derivative. This can result in hot Motors and Servos.' Now comes the dangerous part and the part which Radiomaster could get sued for if a pilot gets injured or the helicopter causes death to a club member or onlooker. Please remember that in clubs you have many people around you so a helicopter is a very dangerous object unless fully under the control of the person flying it. We are warned not to fly any helicopter which is not fully under our control…these are our rules of joining. Rotorflight has already claimed responsibility for this dangerous next action by clearly printing it on the Rotorflight web site….did they not get legal advice? The Rotorflight manual currently states: ‘What do we mean "wobble"?? When tuning parameters are too high the helicopter will wobble or shake during some movements. Each time we increase a tuning value we need to test fly and see if the new setting is too high. Test this in the following way: Beginner: Tap the stick and see if it shakes/shudders/wobbles Average: Do some flips with sudden stops, try going fast and tapping the stick, do some Tictocs Advanced: Do crazy high speed high rate stuff that makes the FC sweat and see if it freaks out 😜. Please also see the General Guidlines below for more specific descriptions Increase Derivative (D) on each axis individually, (roll, pitch, yaw) until it wobbles, then back off a bit. (remember!! don't do this if your filters are not working). Increase Proportional (P) on each axis individually, until it wobbles, then back off a bit. Increase Integral (I) on each axis individually, until it wobbles, then back off a bit. Set Feedforward so that you get good response and Integral (I) remains near 0 in full stick flips and rolls (viewed using the blackbox logs). Feedforward can also be tuned by following the description in Tune Feedforward. If necessary, then tweak P:D ratio to tweak stick response damping to your liking. Increase HSI until it wobbles when jabbing elevator at full collective, back off a bit.’ Unless I am losing my mind in my opinion we cannot have instructions which state to fly the helicopter until it shakes shudders and wobbles on the Roll, Pitch, Yaw…. How many times do we need to fly it out of control to calibrate it and how dangerous is this action? Rotorflight does not suggest how much to increase the PIDs by (I assume they take no responsibility for this action) each time and this is a major problem as some people could put it to the limit immediately and have an out of control and dangerous helicopter on their hands. I notice Jonas does not mention this method of adjusting the PIDs until wobble, I assume he realises this as a contentious issue around safety. Jonas finishes this section by saying he is not going to go into PID,s any further at this point in time. However reading the Rotorflight manual it looks like it is a critical part of the tuning. In my experience the Chinese will have little regard for regulations so will not be bothered about the risk or impact I would assume. The only thing which might get them going will be either lack of sales or if the product is temporarily banned from use until they resolve this issue. I therefore find myself in a moral dilemma and will therefore formally inform the BMFA in the UK and advise them to inform other bodies in Europe in an attempt to prevent a fatality or injury. As they are our insurers they will hopefully look into the matter at club level and get something out to all of us before there is an injury on their hands and hopefully inform their EU members and hopefully others. A helicopter is basically a chainsaw flying through the air and there are BMFA safety rules for a reason.
