This is for people who want to think they can defend yourself. Get that. hand a quarter inch up higher from your hip to be deadly. And in his brain he thinks i still need my teacher

Trained under Sensei Allan Strates and Sensei Mary-Ann many years ago. 2 incredible Springboks and teachers. I have never seen live, better kata from any Shotokan practitioner than Sensei Allan. I’ve since moved onto GojuRyu but I have a deep and abiding love for the clean crisp lines of Shotokan. OSS!

I am not a karate expert, just one who is an enthusiast and practice it for physical fitness of what he thinks is karate although it could be not. I learn a little Shotokan 40 years ago; and the way we were thought was like it is shown in this video. But I think those manner of blocking is applicable in a demo where the attacker and defender are stationary. Look at those karate kumite seldom if you can not even see one doing an upper block as taught in the dojo. either one will extend his hand to parry swiping it out. I could be wrong.

So much oss and osu, Sensei in the comments. You don't say that to an instructor or senior rank. It is is very disrespectful and being almost a sense of bravado.
