Some are hand wringing over how a permanent transformation would complicate his romantic chances with Mina and all I'm saying is Guillermo del Toro did a whole movie on how this relationship is still workable. The Lovecraft kaiju isn't as mindless as it seemed if it has a sense of ironic humor and laughter. Kafka's called shot to the tower was awesome way to show how the tide of the fight has shifted.

The major message throughout this arc has been depending on others. We see all the major characters go through this Hoshina, Mina, Kikoru, Gen, and Reno but we always had the one exception Kafka. Throughout the whole arc he has essentially been fighting alone and only accepted helped when it was forced upon him. This moment is that realization for him is that all the KDF are just like him they all lost something, they are all in some kind of pain and that he isn’t alone. It just took him being beaten to death and 8 to connect with him. I see no reason why the rest of the KDF wouldn’t join in.
