There are three stadium photos shown in this video. The first is Riddick Stadium, on the main campus of NCSU, which served as the home field until 1965. The next is an early photo of Carter Stadium (later Carter-Finley Stadium), soon after it was opened in 1966. The last is a relatively recent photo of Carter-Finley, with permanent seating in both end zones.

This is the same tune as The Army Goes Rolling Along. I wonder why?
@edgehringer34729 күн бұрын
I have heard that this is because of the connection that some of the Southern land-grant schools had with the military in a bygone era. You can also hear that in Virginia Tech's "Tech Triumph", which starts with a few bars of Reveille.
@edgehringer34729 күн бұрын
Another interesting fact: All of the branches of the military have their branch songs used as the fight song of some college. In the case of the Navy and the Air Force, it's the fight song of the corresponding service academies. In the case of the Army, it's the fight song of NC State. (West Point's fight song is, On, Brave Old Army Team.) Another observation: John Philip Sousa is the March King, and he wrote marches specifically dedicated to several universities, such as Illinois, Marquette, and Kansas State. But none of those universities uses those marches as their fight song. AFAIK, the only university to use a Sousa march for a fight song is Long Beach State, whose song follows the tune of "Solid Men to the Front." At first glance, it might appear that the NC State song was also written by Sousa, because "The Caissons Go Rolling Along" is the trio of Sousa's "US Field Artillery March." However, the Caissons was a pre-existing song by Edmund Gruber that was incorporated into the Sousa march.
@Poobforlife29 күн бұрын
@@edgehringer347This is true except for the Space Force who as of now has no university borrowing the tune.(probably because it just got written.)

Odd that the title of the Cal song says Stanford, and that Tech fight song lyrics is also specific against their rival. Also, can you crib a photo of Cal's stadium with fans in it, it is a very striking stadium. It was full twice this year, v. Miami and Stanford, either game. would look good. Thanks.
@MotorfuzzАй бұрын
The Cal song is called the Stanford Jonah, on of Cal’s many songs, the actual fight song is “Fight for California” which was copied by UCLA. Cal was founded in 1868, Ga Tech 1885, but I have no idea who had the tune first.

Wisconsin and Texas A&M both use the melody of “Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight.” I’ve always loved stuff like this; it’s basically like jazz standards or folk songs.

May I ask where the recording in the first version came from? I could only find the version from 1968: kzbin.info/www/bejne/noa5hH-ArbRpnrcsi=sMYi2ZBD51zoMJDI&t=211 and it's not the same version unfortunately.
I like how Cal and GT are pointing fingers directly at Stanford and UGA specifically and going "I'm gonna fucking kill you with an axe" but Montana is just "Yeah, go Grizz!"

What about U of Toledo, if you can find an older recording of it. Toledo is the best team un the MAC, especially when it comes to Power 4 opponents. Look what they did to Mississippi State this year. They have also beaten the Michigan Wolverines by a field goal in 2008, silenced a #4 ranked Penn State in 2002, pulled off several victories against Purdue, beat a #9 Pitt at home in the 90's, came close to beating #15 Ohio State in Columbus in 2010, fell a point short at Illinois in 2022, beat Arkansas on the road in 2014, and beat Iowa State in 2015. Fun Fact: There is a real, disarmed missle outside of the Glass Bowl, pointed in the direction of BGSU's home stadium, which is just 45 minutes away. Toledo and BGSU have what is probabbly the biggest rivalry in the MAC.
@sammyrhoads265Ай бұрын
Dunno bout that, I’d say either WMU, Ohio, or Miami would be better. Before I even got into college football I knew about Western vs Central, Ohio vs Miami, and Miami vs Cincy plus Western is also the only MAC team to ever go to a NY6 game. Not saying Toledo ain’t good, but I don’t think they’re the best team in the MAC
@graydencooper701822 күн бұрын
The first few MAC Championships were either won by Marshall or Toledo, with both teams making the first 2. Toledo has also led the conference in wins since 2013. They also just recently upset a Pitt team who was on a five game slide downhill, 46-44, in 6 OTs , the longest Bowl game in CFB history.

The difference between a team people respect and a team people don’t respect is that respectable team fans don’t argue if their coach is good or not. Teams that unanimously like or dislike a coach are always teams that have a positive public image, or a hatred out of respect. The ones where they always argue over if a coach is good or not are almost always hated or laughing stock. I’ve seen this a lot with my favorite NFL team, it’s starting to happen to Ohio State, and it seems coincidental yet understandable that this happens.
