I have the same bike, MK2A - smokes right side. Did you solve your problem? How? Also in BC BTW.

Yes it was original intake valve seals hard and crumbling. Changed to Viton seals without pulling head. See threads on AccessNorton forum.

Hey, just to let you know that I get a notification about a comment on a couple of the Mini updates but for some reason KZbin is not showing your comment for me to read/reply. Apologies! Sweet Norton by the way!

Hi. Weird. I did place a link to a Canadian Tire product you might want to try...Permatex Disc Brake Quite...instead of using copper grease. I've used DBQ on my mini, Norton & Triumph bikes. Seems to stay put and do the anti-rattle/squeal thing really well. I also mentioned on your Grease video that I didn't know there was a grease fitting on the steering tierod end. Haynes does not show this. Is that stock or some aftermaket end on your car?
@garethkhill3 жыл бұрын
@@TornadoCAN99 Awesome thanks for the recommendation. The steering rack and tie rods are pretty much brand new from the UK and so they came like that. I do agree though when I checked the Haynes I recall I couldn't find it but I thought as there was one Id grease it. Best Regards

Having eliminated spark and fuel, I would do a compression test. Good luck.

I thought you guys were better than that the single carb is the wimps way. Get the twin carbs back on as soon as possible. ;-)
@davidsundquist18455 жыл бұрын
Carbs need work by real pro, single carb so simple compared to two but both require specific set up.whats great about single- equal fuel charged being delivered to each cylinder every stroke and always perfectly synced.Norton should have offered a single carb model single carb bikes last way longer with less work and over all better gas milage, headers not the problem the bike is out of tune 50 yr pro. -Sundquist Nortons- youtube

When you give it a handful of throttle it sounds like it bogs down a bit before it takes off. This could be caused by too rich or too lean in the transition of the jets. I would try dropping the needle by raising the clip 1 or 2 positions, and see what the difference is. If its worse than go the other way and raise the needle by lowering the clip 1 or 2. The puff of black smoke tells me it is probably too rich. I would turn the idle down to a maximum of 1000 as well.
@MOAB6 жыл бұрын
A couple things: idling too high, probably do to intake leak on left cylinder intake manifold gasket.. That is why pipe is blue'r than the right side. That also would account for the out of balance sound coming out of the rear pipes. It could be a tight intake valve as well, but I would lean towards an intake manifold leak. I would also check Idle circuit jet as well, but that would affect both cylinders. Great looking bike, much better than the high rider. Good job just a little tweaking.

Thx for reinforcing my suspension on an intake leak. It has 2in1 mani on there and does not appear to have the thick heat insulating gasket(s) fitted. Will pull it of to see what it needs. Will a good Hi temp sealant be useful there, as a gasket dressing?
@MOAB6 жыл бұрын
Yes I always use a good gasket sealant on the intake side. An air leak cause all kinds of problems. Good luck.
@TornadoCAN996 жыл бұрын
OK, got 2n1 manifold off. There is some deep scoring next to the left side stud for the carb...crosses the rubber sealing surface. Don't think glass & fine wet&dry will make it flush...too much material would need to come off entire flange. Could seal with gasket sealant but would need to always repeat every time carb removed. Thinking of an epoxy filler then glass & wet&dry. Thoughts?
@MOAB6 жыл бұрын
I have used epoxy filler before for deep scratches like that and it works good. So it was an air leak?
@TornadoCAN996 жыл бұрын
I have not determined a leak as the issue yet, but those deep gouges in the sealing surface could easily leak...b/c they are on the carb/mani surface, I would not expect them to cause one header to blue more than the other. The head/mani flange still had a fiber gasket and some tacky goop there when I removed mani...didn't see anything indicating a leak there...but always possible.

hi. about evolution- have a very interesting argument: lets say that scientists will create a human-like robot with dna and self replicating system. we will agree that this kind of robot is evidence for design. so why not the human itself that is much more complex then this kind of speciel robot and have the same traits? have a nice day
@TornadoCAN998 жыл бұрын
Not too sure how you found your way to my motorcycle videos to post on evolution topics...but that's ok with me. What you seem to be saying is "if we could actually design a living thing artificially, then why could not all living things be the result of a designer?". Well, no one is saying it is not possible to design a living thing. In fact there are many efforts underway to do just that. See for example Craig Ventor's discussion of his synthetic cell : www.ted.com/talks/craig_venter_unveils_synthetic_life Does this prove all life had to be designed? Absolutely not! The question is: Did life on this planet require a designer? All evidence we have points to no requirement for an outside designer for life on this planet. We have learned so much about how evolutionary processes work in the past 50 years. We have tested its predictions and found them to be sound. We have observed evolutionary processes occurring in the lab and in nature. Therefore evolution happened and is still happening today, without some outside intelligence guiding it. If all this can occur on its own, following simple forces of natural selection, then why do we need to invoke some super intelligence? Doing so raises a huge number of further problems to solve. Like how did that intelligence arise? What/Who designed it? Where did it come from? Where is it now? etc. etc. So you see, the idea of an intelligent designer for life does not actually solve the question of how did life arise. It just attempts to solve how life here on this planet arose. And our evidence from hundreds of years of studying biology does not support it as being necessary.

That be known as the "Pedestrian Slicer"! Ya, the SMQ T100 is quite an eye catcher...Other than the limited edition triple-tree plate (it's #491 our of 1100 produced world wide...~25 sold in Canada), the bike is a mix of Scrambler parts (5-3/4" headlamp; sump/bash plate; single seat with rack; matte Khaki green paint) and T100 everywhere else.

+TornadoCAN99 I like that paint! Shoot I didn't know they had a different headlight! That's really cool that it's numbered too. I work over at MINI and they launch a couple number models once in awhile. My favorite would be The John Cooper Works GP! legit! The DGR ride was dope! The would be so cool riding up in Vancouver! I went up there a couple years go and it has cool see all the bikes on the fairy, and seeing how many peeps ride in the rain. way cool! anyways Peace from the southwest coast!
