My humble opinion... When I was in the Legion we only used these (occasionally) in the compound on down time. they were an alternative to wearing track shoes or sport shoes. In the bush we wore regular black leather boots, the sole was really tough and it offered ankle support... these Palladium have a bad sole and stones get stuck in the profile all the time... Now of course the market is full of great boots by Meindle and Haix etc etc which replaced the black leather boots... Palladium (and a few other makers) were fine for their time... that time was Indochine and Algeria, where there simply were no alternatives and light boots were needed... they are now way outdated... I still have a few pairs, newly bought, for summer wear... but I would never have put my trust in these in the field... especially on a long march

Subtly interesting style. The grosgrain over the quarter seams got me thinking. Not sure I'd want to ruck a full pack on those heels, though! You definitely got me nervous wrangling that snap knife fully extended. Might treat yourself to a mill knife next time you're at shoe supply, or on Amazon. Hyde, C.S. Osborne, and even Dexter all still make decent ones for honest money. Protect them dawg paws. Congrats on your new pair. Maybe they're telling us the French Foreign Legion has a secret space squad?

Hello, i have a little confusion with the Standard Last Length measurement, you said in your book that the Standard Last Length is measured "from the heal seat to the toe point", but the Heel Seat is defined to be "the flat section of the heel", while in the picture where the SSL is presented, the measurement of SSL seems to start from furthest point at the heel (so under the heel curve) -> to the toe point. Is the 2nd variant correct? Thank you in advance.

Why is the strobel stitching initially done only till the top half, is there a reason as to why they don't just stitch the upper to the insole board completely ?
@thesneakerfactory83012 күн бұрын
What you are seeing is the lasting apron for the toe/Vamp of the boot. The lining is fully stitched but they will need to use a lasting machine to pull the toe down. Also in this case they will be attaching the steel toe before the leather vamp is pulled tight. Great Questions. Visit www.shoemakersacademy.com to lean more

The wire lasting is really cool. I've been looking into it, and so far it seems distinctly Mexican, though American cowboy boot makers will often do a similar move they call "wiping" with a leather thong rather than wire, but only after lasting with tacks, to bring in any last wrinkles. Apart from that, the closest I've found outside the Americas was some old footage of an English factory with a machine for toe lasting men's dress shoes that inserted and tensioned lengths of nylon cord. Kind of like string lasting, but with friction rather than holes.

well its a bit hard to really tell from your video's, i do agree for high quality stuff this looks rather poorly run. but its in line whith that one time we( co i worked for) closed a mashene room in AU and opened one in China. very poor consistency at best. ..... my brother and I looked in to Alibaba a year or 2 ago, just dont LOL ..... most of the factory's i worked in looked a lot lick this place, Australia has a very small/ shirking industry, i always thort thay wer all going broke ( sum were/ did go bust )! LOL one or 2 were pritty bad ! do you ever go Down Under? LOL ied love to see more factory videos :)

There are so many great factories, there is no need for a ANY export brand to be working in place like this. Factories like this soliciting branded production are what make my services so valuable. You are welcome!

As a crafter, it's AWESOME to see all the tools explained, thanks for sharing this, it gets me excited about some new projects 😃 I also picked up a secret in the Hirschkleber (around 08:28), that can work great on leather and keep it breathable while also adding some structural ridigity. That can be a game changer for some projects, and open up doors for new ones. Thanks for the knowledge!

Real guy! I sprung for the Hirschkleber, too. It's great stuff, and I'm handwelting leather stiffeners, so the motivation's there. But the cost and the single source aren't great. I've had real experienced people tell me wallpaper paste or just straight up PVA. In the USA, the money saved is enough for a whole other tool from Craftool or Osborne.

@thesneakerfactory8302 ай бұрын
Plastic lasts will "Last" forever. Wood lasts are okay for small run custom shoes but mass production is done with plastic.
