One documentary I watched about Henry XVIII hypothesized that the issues experienced by His Wives in carrying pregnancies to full-term, birthing living children, and having children who died young - as well as Henry’s increasing mental-instability as he aged - (etc) were most-likely due to his having contracted syphilis as a young man. Considering the King’s lifestyle and other salient-points discussed, I think that this is very likely. Strange how this overview of Henry’s life doesn’t mention that (or anything else) as a possible reason for his strange behaviour and unstable mental-decline; I also find it perplexing that the possibility/likelihood of those rumours leading to the Wives’ executions/divorces aren’t even hinted at as being untrue. I like the playful way these semi-biographical overviews are presented, but would prefer that more truth than intrigue and humour presented. All-in-all, I found this interesting - but not very helpful (and potentially quite-misleading) as a method/source of Historical education. *Listener’s beware!😉
