I could not finished the first time I participated, but finished the race two years ago. There are no special requirements to participate in MDS, and participants vary in running ability and age. There are top runners, and mountain climbers. And among them are those who have overcome cancer and those who have lost both legs in the war and are challenging with prosthetic legs, like Mr. Duncan. And regardless of whether they have such handicaps or not, many participants participate to challenge their own limits. Top runners also impose harsh training on themselves in order to aim for the top. I was able to say after the race that it was fun, but during the race, both physically and mentally, it was a very tough situation, close to the limit of my life. I think that people who can say that MDS was simply fun were not challenging themselves to the limit. This is true whether they are top runners or not. I have heard that the tears that adults shed are often shed when they remember past memories, such as things they could not do. Those who shed tears at MDS regain confidence in what they have accomplished by challenging their own limits, and at the same time feel grateful to those around them for giving them the opportunity, and feel that they have gained more power to have a positive influence on those around them. Thank you!

Anyone in Sydney planning to participate in 2025? Would love to get some training sessions in with you.

Does the current race course take you anywhere near the marabout where Mauro Prosperi drank bat blood? I am dreaming but strangely i would visit that shrine if i could.

Ever since listening to a podcast about Mauro Prosperi, i become fixated on this race. I so want to do it. My wife is saying no and thinks i am crazy but i want to run it.

Why it has to be so melodramatic everything about MDS? Every promo clip has to show someone crying or having a serious background story???? I done the 2024 edition and loved it… not shared a tear or had any special reasons to do it… I done it because I wanted it a challenge and it was the best thing I ever done,but me and probably 95% of the people there are doing it for themselves not anything… it is a bit to much showing people crying and all that. All I can say that it was an amazing experience and everyone there should do it for themselves

Totally missing the point. The MDS isn’t just about a physical effort and beautiful sceneries. It’s the human and emotional dimensions which make it unique. You won’t see (as much) tears at the UTMB, as many of the MDS participants are just not as athletic and prepared. They all have their reasons to take on this monumental challenge and many of them will have moments of total despair, followed by total elation. I would argue these clips render this rather accurately. Perhaps to you it was just a walk in the park and your only reason to participate was to keep fit. But if that’s the case, I believe you speak for a minority.

Let me guess… you are the ones crying in this video 😂
@arnaud6048 ай бұрын
@TheIonutzdutca: No, but I know several who did, and there is no shame in that. By the way, one of the persons in the above clip who looks distraught is a runner who was withdrawn early in the race. Obviously, he is delighted. But what would you know about that, right?

They should change the arrangements so runners will not have to carry food and other things. The organizers need to be more responsible
