I love how Bonner came up to you, ready for whatever. my horse (Hesed) does that also, no matter what time of the day. (I do not give food treats , he just comes up to see me. I love that !)

Chickens also help keep the tick population down so keep that in mind if you live in an area with a ton of ticks.

My dog plays with my horse, nipping at her heels as she's lead to turn out. She does not react. I've felt like it's good desensitizing for her. Other people have rebuked me for allowing it, (even though I scold the dog, I'm not really "allowing" it), I feel like it's actually been a good thing. I have chickens around my horse also.

When I first brought home my OTTB rescue, he would allow the chickens to eat his grain, too afraid to stand his ground - but now that grain is his (the whole handful LOL) and yes, chickens helped him work thru his fears - chickens & horses go together! thx 4 the share - blessings always & keep being kind!

Love is important to have in your relationship with the animal but it's not the same thing as respect. An animal can love you and still not respect you. Teaching any animal to respect your space and over the food you give them is the foundation for that respect. If they barrel right in when you feed them without waiting for your say, that behavior will transfer over to any other situation. This is how animals communicate with each other. People often forget they are constantly communicating things to their horse on how they can behave around us whether we intend to or not. Allowing pushiness tells the horse it's okay to push into your space. Try walking out into a field of a big herd of horses with food and find out how long love saves you from being injured.

I agree with everything you say. My horses have been very loving but want to please me because of the way I treat them. I can do everything I do to them without a halter or rope on them.

I agree totally. I feel so lucky to even have a passion for something! I have friends that don't have the first hobby let alone a passion for something. I admire you for not naming names but l have to say, when they say never meet your heros? Ugh l met Clinton A and to say l was disappointed is an understatement. Way too big for his britches or head way too big for his hat. All about the $ now, absolutely not the horse.

I agree !!! I have had a Passion for horses ever since I can remember and have owned one whenever I can afford to . I feel like part of me is missing when I don't have a horse. You are correct , we are always learning something when we are around our horse. What a blessing they are to us.

I loved watching this, I can not wait for the next step❤ I have a gelding, who was super headshy, I managed to find out from previous owners that he was whipped in the face as a youngster, which really saddened me. They battled to put a bridle on and started to use force. He then got sold and eventually found/chose me. I was nervous in the beginning because he is a big horse, but I took small steps and showed him, I mean him no harm. Today I can scratch his face, clean his ears, touch his poll without him backing up and throwing his head up. The trust is undescribeable❤ He taught me so much about trust and patience. People who don't know us, even comment on how amazed they are when my horse spotted me in the crowd. His eyes follow me everywhere🥰 Such an honour to know. Sending greetings from South Africa🇿🇦🐴

How long does it take on average to gentle a horse? I know it takes as long as it takes w each individual personality. Just wondering how long you will spend on getting them to trust people. ❤

I like the idea but I think maybe your hand could be just a touch lower and because he's starting to have a bit of trust or curiosity when he sniffs at you maybe a little horsey treat to make him think. Well this human is friendly. Doesn't mean you have to do that every time you want him to do something just a peace offering. Animals aren't stupid. But I think you're patience is good and some animals are better than others. Keep up the good work and hopefully wild animals can become friends with us ❤

Excellent! I absolutely love your way with horses and heart you have for these Masterpiece works of God. God blessed me with 4 absolutely gorgeous Arabian Quarter Horse mix horses. One was a 4 yr old gelding but had been the sire of the other 3 young stallions. The young ones had been severely neglected and starving. I didn't get them gelded until they were 4 because one didn't fully drop until that age. They did well together since they had several acres and never stalled up. They all used to be so easily spooked and untrusting. Now they are very friendly and gentle, but need much more training. One recently got rattlesnake bit behind his jaw and wouldnt allow us to doctor him much. Thankfully he has healed up without scars. They are magnificent yard art and every day I'm in awe of their beauty and I'm immensely thankful to God that I get to take care of them. The last one of my old horses died in January. My smooth, sweet gray, Banner, was always joyful and playful & lived to be 38! I'd be heart sick without a horse if these horses hadn't been here. Keep up the amazing work. May God protect, bless & guide you.
