Played a Musicman Stingray for 25yrs,took off that ugly a** oval pickguard on day one....Love MusicMan basses hate that oval pickguard. But you can't get spare parts for em,so i gave up on em,play fender exclusively now because it's easy to get spare parts for them.....................Boom!

Now get rid of the hideous control plate. Makes it look like a 7th grade woodshop project.
@jburtonca9 күн бұрын
He can't get rid of the control plate because the bass is top routed. There is nothing under the control plate, but yes, it would look even better without it.

I prefer the no pick guard look. I like to see the wood grain. Back in 2005 I built a Warmoth jazz bass with a 3A quilted maple top which I stained with ruby red aniline dye. It was rear routed. Covering that beautiful quilted maple would be a crime.

I only being playing for a year, I am not an expert and a can tell the stock bridge it has a slight brighter sound. Which is I guess ideal for slapping and popping song. I am more of a blues, 50s R&R, Motown guy so I replaced my stock bridge (105g) to a Gotoh 201B-4 (165g) and I find that the way it holds the strings in place to keep excess vibration in check and makes it easier to play and more predictable. That’s my 2 cents on the matter depend of what type of music you play a if it makes easier for you to play, I just split the baby and whet semi-himass. IMHO

damn, the 60s sounds way more fuller, with more low end and with a ton more growl compared to the 70s, the 70s doesn't sound bad (I own a 70s style JB so I love it and I know the sound very well lol) and it is way more brighter and snappy but it is less "growly" and IMO sounds better with flats as it does tame the high end a lot because otherwise the bass with new strings sounds VERY bright, crazy how just 1cm makes a ton of difference I love both for different reasons

To put it in layman's terms, I think, in the upper mids: 60s spacing = more of a DENG to it. 70s spacing = more of a ZONG to it. I'm a big fan of both but lean towards the zong haha.

Good video Bart. I prefer the regular bridge. Very specific usecase the high mass can be good, but for most players, the stock one is best. I never really got the concept of adding a heavy block of metal to your bass. Will only make everything resonate less I would say.

I prefer a stock bridge too!

What is the "2-5" note with the three thick horizontal lines? And how to play it?
@BARTFUNKBASS2 ай бұрын
The bassline is constructed from 8ths in each bar. 2nd fret [B] is just a 32nd and it slides to 5th fret [D] which is a 16th with a dot. Both notes make one 8th note. So instead of playing one note it's a fast slide from 2nd to 5th fret.
