I wish our Roguelike Guru, Sir Biskup, could update this one. Mr Slashie, do you know any way of fixing that going-down-the-stairs bug? At some point I just stopped playing since I reached level 11 with an awesome character but it's impossible to continue. Even trying the trick of reloading the save game until the game doesn't crash on generating the new level... At 11th floor doesn't work anymore. I love this little game so much. And it is REALLY filled with tons of variables to enjoy it. Gracias de todas formas, saludos desde Hispania.

@slashieАй бұрын
@@uvq3tsa gracias!

hi there good sir, playing the 1.0.2 release and i do enjoy it A LOT. i do have a recurrent crash when trying to go down the stairs, the game freezes and when you re-start it and the system tries to re-take on the same crashed game... crashes again. :( Anyway, that doesn't deter me at all at playing it. There's something beautiful and kinda mesmerising in this RL. Hopefully Sir Biskup doesn't stop at developing it! Love your channel, Santiago, lots of good stuff.

Hi Jose! I just talked with Sir Biskup, is there any chance you can send him the save files to creator @ ancientdomainsofmystery . com? That way he can attempt to fix the crash :) Thank you for visiting the channel, glad you like the content!

I'm looking forward to this, looks great! It's very interesting that Ubisoft is investing in two PoP games pretty much in parallel (and theoretically still working on the Sands of Time remaster), I would never have guessed this would happen.
@TheDukenator4 ай бұрын
This one is outside of Ubisoft, hence Evil Empire being the developer. The Lost Crown was released in January, and a roadmap was revealed in March. Sands of Time is getting a remake, not remaster.
@AstronautDown4 ай бұрын
@@TheDukenator I said *investing* and *pretty much* (although It's understandable for a person outside the industry to think that a few months is a considerable amount of time). You are correct about the remake of course, I hope that makes you happy because you obviously need all the happiness you can get. Speaking of which, have you considered just enjoying the video, or-god forbid-participate in the excitement for more entries in the franchise? Take care of yourself, friend.

Goodmorning my good sir, I' m a humble player of this awesome game for some time now. It reminds me of CoQ in some ways, with some ADOM hints too, and a lot of good (vampiric) vibes :) But I find it very original in its approach. You have a great game yourself, mister Slashie :] I wanted to ask you a couple questions in regard of it. For example, what parts of the game can I expect to be always the same in benefit of conducting the story, and what parts are procedurally generated? Thank you for the game and all the effort in it!! Keep on RL- ing!
@slashie4 ай бұрын
Good morning, vanquisher of evil! Always happy to hear about someone enjoying the game! Most of the Demon Castle is generated procedurally, with the exception of the Castle Garden, Dracula's Keep, and some small exploration hubs and story-progressing points. Please share how far you have been able to explore it! :)

So, if I wanted to make my top down game like this, I update the player and enemy positions, and check to see if they are colliding on a grid/tile? Currently, my actors move on a grid, but I have them all moving at all times with different behaviors. My game is not turned based. If they touch the player, it’s game over. I think I can make a game out of it, as is. I have 5 enemies with different movements, a key, and a door for the key, and a gem. Sounds like a game, but level design is difficult. I learned to program to make games, only to find out level design is a whole different skill😂
@slashie4 ай бұрын
For CvRL, the logical and visual aspects are separate so whenever an Actor wants to perform an action, it will first check if the destination cell is walkable, before updating the world model and then the visual representation is updated; it's a bit old fashioned in the sense that there are no "game objects" per se, but rather the viewport is redrawn based on the surroundings of the player every turn. I wouldn't recommend following that approach for modern gamedev (this game is from 2005, and some bad gamedev patterns went into it), however you may still benefit from the model/view separation. Good luck in the perilous world of gamedev! :)

I still use arcade controllers to play NES games. I got the keyboard because it looked awesome and I love 8-BitDo products because I actually get more than I pay for. Best products ever. The keys are like IBM Model M keyboards from the 80's. In other words it's top notch and couldn't be better. I got the NES controller styled mouse also. Don't have to deal with a squeaky mouse wheel because it has touchscreen.
