Beautiful! This is one of the best Grateful Dead covers I've ever heard. Created at a peak moment in the Dead's harmony vocal skills, the song fell by the wayside in their live performance setlists over the years. Grateful Dead's best harmony vocals had a certain "ragged-but-right soulfulness" about them, but harmonies weren't always their forté, could be kind of hit or miss depending on the personnel & the show. Jerry Garcia expressed how he'd like to hear the songs covered by gifted vocalists, with the implication that the songs could be sung better in the hands of those with technically better voices. This cover is so wonderfully rendered, the vocals & also the guitar work, it's so pure & reverent that it elevates Hunter & Garcia's song to the level of a spiritual hymn.... Magnificent. P.S. Please bill the 3rd singer.

What a gorgeous tribute. We're all on the spectrum in The Book of Love's Own Dreams. Thank you Phil for channeling your muse. Thank you to these talented artists for channeling Phil, Hunter (the lyricist), and their ineffable muse.

One of Steve Young's classics (IMO) with which David pays his respect in his cover (just as Steve Y did in covering Olney's "The Contender" and you can find on KZbin - both studio recording and a live one).

I am a 30 plus year fan of Steve Earle and met Kelly many times after shows. I found him to be very generous with his time and sharing and a delightful person to speak with, his death really shook us all, he left too soon and even now, five years later, I miss him at Steve shows. I can only imagine how Steve felt and all the people who loved him so dearly in his life, but I am grateful I said thank you to him when I did, for his gift of music given to us all.
