It is obvious that whoever picked the accommodations layout doesn't like their extended family. They made sure the family would refuse any overnight stays by not having a bed married couples could stay in together.

Dont you get it? post office....post, meaning "after", so he or she is retired I am guessing and this is their life now, after a life in the office, or a life at work
